to the question of Slavery—that upon every

The Virginia Conference of the Methodist
Church South, at its recent session in Eliz
abeth City, North Carolina, rescinded the
church regulation which forbid trading in
slaves. At tho same time, two wayward
members of the Conference, Rev. Messrs. J.
E. Edwards and L. Rosser, were
arraigned
on charge of playing ten pins, at the Vir
ginia Springs, last summer but wearegrat
ified to leani that the culprits, on full con
fession of the enormity, und apromise "not
to do so no more," were freely forgiven.—
They may knock down any nunider of nig
gers, upon tbe auction block, but they IUU.IT

The Cuba Slavr Trade.
The slave trade in Cuba shows no signs
of decadence, but on tho contrary, if any
reliance is to be placed upon private advices
from Havana, continues to be prosecuted
with unabated vigor. Hitherto the trade
has been confined to sail vessels, but now it
is proposed to introduce steam into the trade,
and accordingly the steamship 1'ajaro del
Occano, built 111 New York several years
since, but now owned in Cuba, is soon to
make a voyage from Havana to tho coast of
Africa. The Herald says she has been trans
ferred to a joint stock company, if we are
well informed,with a capital of $300,000.—
One-half of this amount is to bo paid for
tho steamship, $10,000 for "gratifications"
in Cuba, $4'J,U00 to secure a celebrated
slave captain, $30,000 for the crew, nnd the
remainder for the purchase of 2,000 negroes,
and contingent expenses. It is supposed
that from the quick run she will make, e^ery
one of tho negroes will be landed in good
health and sell redily for $750 each, thus
