Iff He TT:NSBI UNDER 'I V TIIE fou ATI.ANTIC.—The Church Union gives the following particu lars of a wild undertaking—tlmt of run ning a tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean in tfrdcr to connect the Old and New Worlds together by means of a sub-marine rail way. Is it n joke The" most eminent engineers, both in jEuropc and America, have been consulted, *hd they drew up a report which repre sents tlilit this stupenduoua schciue is per fectly feasible and only requires time and (,J#oney to carry it out, while the capital, ,although stupendous, will be forthcoming. "•Bo far as calculated approximately, it will tiquire five hundred million dollars. Plen tjr of capitalists are ready to engage in this marvelous undertaking, and as soon as the plans are arranged the money will be ad tftneed. The proposed plans are in them ttlvea the wonder of this skillful age of ODgineering science. To relate them in detail would be simply impossible at pres tht but a few of the leading points may •to glanced at in order to give the reader an insight into the wonderful results al ready arrived at. This undertaking will occupy one hundred thousand men—half 4it each end of the terminus—and suppos the obstacles to be of such a character g| are expected, it will take fully thirty yiars to accomplish the work. When complete it will take about six days for ordinary trains to travel between both points, and three days for express mails. The system to be adopted for the tunneling will be of the latest improve ments in drilling rocks, each advance of ''Ihe drillers being followed by shields of Various dimensions of strong cast iron, and •e»ch succeeding one being tinner than the last. Powerful steam engines will push forward these shields as tho boring j^lvan ves, until at last the largest and most per fect tube will be placed with rails properly fixed for operation. It is proposed to light the cars with the magnesium light, while ,j»werful engines will drive the air through tne tunnel, inducing circulation, the sup ply being regulated by various contrivan ces at certain distances. The electric light Will be used at intervals on the track. Depots will not be required as there will be no stoppages. The points of union, both in America and Europe, are in course of debate. It is generally conceded that the shortest route will be tho cable one, •ia.: between Newfoundland and Ireland. The soundings already taken to lay the ca ble telegraph are oji the greatest use, and ^ave enabled the perators to lay out their map of the bed of tne Atlantic. The wire will he laid t'.irough the tunm 1, and exper iments are in progress to connect the com munication between the running cars and the fixed telegraph, by which means im mediate information can be sent to either continent by the passenger while traveling. Thus, while the billows roll aboye and the monsters of the deep are sporting or fight ing, as the ease may be, men, women and children will be rolling rapidly underneath, and, after a brief trip, will find themselves on the shores of other nations, without the danger, fatigue and sicknos* at' a long aud dangerous sea voyage. when you die." Covering it with earth continued "That grain will decay, but from it will raise up the plant that will woduce a reappearance of the original rami." Couinioro—"Exactly so that I understand, llut the original grain does mtt rise again it rots like the dend man, ahd is ended the fruit produced is not the same grain buried, but the production of that grain so it is with man—I die and decay, and am ended but my chil dren grow up like the fruit of the grain. Some men nave no children, and some grains perish without fruit then all are ended." A clergyman asked a sea captain his views about the future state, and was an swered that he did not meddle himself with state affairs.
