A severe storm visited LaSalle coun ty, Illinois, recently, leveling frame buildings, sheds and fences to the ground. The damage done in and around Ottawa was considerable. Edward Hughes, indicted for acting as guide to John Morgau'sexpedition in Pike county, Ohio, pleaded the Amnes ty Proclamation and was discharged. This shows thMt there is a bad leak in the proclamation. The bone had been diseased for about six months. Mr. Gough, telegraphic operator in this city, authorizes us to say that any one who will put up the telegraph line between here and Davenport at any time when it may be found down, will be promptly paid on presenting the bill to him. As this is a matter of public interest, we hope that those living along the line will give it their attention. £feg" The Board of Supervisors met on Monday, and alter a session of two days, during which time the county vote was canvassed and other business of impor tance transacted, adjourned to meet on the first Monday in January, when the Board will have more than half new members, and will stand 12 Republican and 2 Democratic. The Lafayette and Indianapolis railroad, on which the disaster occurred, is a wealthy corporation, abundantly able to pay all damages. The coroner's jury found a verdict of carelessness against the em ployees of the railroad. Nov. a SkedaddJiHR.—The name of Fergus Hanson (misspelled Fergena) appears in the list of drafted men not reporting. This is gross injustice to him. No more loyal and earnestly pa triotic young man can be found any where. He served in the 7th Iowa till discharged for disability, and was refus ed in the Oth cavalry for the same rea son. Finding it difficult to get employ ment, he went to California in March last, where he hoped to secure good wa ges. He hail no reason to expect being drafted, as he had been refused as a vol unteer. We hope the Adjutant General will do him the justice to state these facts as publicly as the statement has been published that he is a deserter. 11, Siikrmax.—M. LTMikesell. of the 11th Iowa regiment, lately detached as clerk at the head quarters of Gen. Howard, arrived home on furlough Wednesday. Heleft Atlanta on the Oth inst at which time General Sherman had not yet left on his grand expedition, notwithstanding the news paper reports to the contrary, but was engaged in preparations for the great, march, which, it was surmised, would commence in about ten days. The im pression prevailed among the best in formed officers that Savanah was his destination, whilst others believed that Montgomery and Mobile would be visit ed. It is certain that wherever his des tination may be, telling blows will be struck, and that Sherman's track will be one of devastation. The Gulf States are about to taste the actual horrors of war. When Mr. Mikesell left, the Army of the Tennessee was encamped along the railroad to Atlanta. The 11th Iowa was at Marietta, in good health aud spirits. "Doc.'s" furlough extends for thirty dayS.
