So it is with the Monaeur Junior of the Register. He takes everything which be ever heard of—trie* pro-slavery, then anti slavery, then republicanism, gets into a Convention, is not nominated, bolt- op poses the ticket, tries the K. E I O N A V E I S E Fim vt MltpenJm—Fomr Engines Burned.—The engine house of the Lake Shoie Railroad, at Millwattkie, was con sumed by fire on Monday morning, and four engines destroyed. Loss, f«50,000 or $60,000. There was no train frain Milwaukie, in consequence, in the laoro ing. The evening train r«tc«d at 7 last evening. Terrible Death.—One of the most I 0- rible casualities of which we erer eard, took place at or near Port Clinton, on the line of the railroad between this place and Philadelphia, one day last week. By some mistake ostvtch was misplaced, in consequence of which a train o! cart in charge of an engineer by the name of Riter, waa thrown off the track. The tender was thrown forward on the engine, which was badly crushed, and Mr. Kiter thrown and wedged between parts of the wreck, where two steam-cocks were opened directly upon his bowels, subject ing him to the roost intense torture, and from which he had no power to extract himself. As soon as hit horrible condi tion was realized by tho.ie who were anx ious to relieve him the escop« valve ot the engine was openei, and every effort made for his release. In o'der to do this, however, it was lound necessary to call in requisition tereral jack-screws, and by means of these the iron arms of death which inclosed him in their unyielding embrace, were opened, and the unfortu nate man taken out. when it was found that in the iuteusity of his agony he had tctually torn open his own towels, which, in addition to the dreadful effectt of the steam, presented a most shocking appear ance. Every assistance possible was rendered to the sufferer, but he survived oakj a taw hours.—Daily Adv. Elmira. Shall the Prohibitory Law of Iowa be sustained and put in forced —It has now come to this issue, whether the persons if they are worthy of that name, who op pose the law, shall violate the same with impunity, regardless of the consequences and the friends of the law lay supinely on their lacks and see the law that they have exerted all their legal powers, time, money and talents, and all to obtain i .-, ed with a small cane in his hand, and rr •he passage of the law, and the Supreme friends that wish to show their friendship have now an opportunity te try their faith by their work. Now is the time to commence the work of extermination, and it should be continued until the fune ral knell of King Alcohol would be.heard trom the slave bound bonk of Missouri to the beautiful plains of Minnesota, and its reechoes be heard from the Fa'her of Waters on the east to the hunting grounds of the savage on the west,— Com. WatHifeTOH, May 8. T'neie was a desperate affray at the dining-room of Willard's Uriel, this nnnnr g. W m. Herbeil, mer.iuer from California, shot and killed instantly one of the Irish waiters. The circumstances of the murder at Willard's this morning, I understand to I be these: Mr. Herbert came down late to breakfast in the diuing hall. He enter- a Court haring now sustained it, and the Cost. The servant told hun he was too servant to gel him some break- late, and that he should have been there before, showing, beside, an indisposition to wait on hiiii Provoked by this, Her bert struck him, and the waiter threw a p'ate at the member cutting his face and causing the blood to flow. A melee at On^e arose, and the other servants were pushing toward the parties, some with uplifted chairs. In an instant, several discharges of a pistol were heard, a&d the advance wos stayed. Herbert had drawn a revolver and shot one of the servants dead, and wounded 'wo others. In company wit two or three friends, he immediately left the room, which by this tune was in greut ivmfusion. Several members of Congress were in the diuing hall, one or two reporters, besides other gentlemen, oil at breakfast. It is report ed by the friends of Herbert, that he was feet upon by the servants, and only acted in st lf-defcnee. The statement of the •ervan's qualifies this assertion materi ally. Death uf a Like Captain. Captain John Shook, an old and well-known Lake sailor, died at Huron, Ohio, last Sunday. The Sandusky Register says Captain S. commanded the steamer which the Prince de Joinville chartered lor his Vpper lake trip, when he accidsntally(?) Inet the missionary Elenzer Williams, now heheved by many to be the lost Bourbon Prince. Capt. S. well reinem tered the first interview Letween the Prince de J. and Mr. Wiliiams, and said lie had not a shadow of a cfaoubt of the tign of that interview. In token ol Capt Shook's kindness to him, the Prince sent back to him from France a gold sr.uff box, elegantly chased and lettered.— te Ptess. .Veteton.—Our friends in Newton see strange sights. Minneipolit, St.akopee, Hastings, Red Wing, Hokan, (Houston county) Farnbault, Manto and Wihona. Three of these lodges (at Hastings, Red Wiag and Winona) wert establiihed during 1855. A swindle of about $(25,000 has just beon perpetrated by the head cf a com mission house in New York wbich hat heretofore been in good repute. The party in question it a deacon in a leading church, and has left tbe city in company with a female. One of the bftnks suffers t0 lhe tune 8MOO The Location of th« Capita). Just as our paper is going to pieflf, we are authorized to aonounee the fina 1 location of the capital. Tbe site selected is on the ean side of the river, within th e two miles radius to the junction of Rao coon and Demoine livers. A strong de monstration was made by the friends of the west side location, but those of the oher side have been successful. Thote of the former, besides giving ten acret of land for the building site, propos ed to donate to the State two hundred thousaud dollars, in lots and lands, as the propt-rity and for the use of the State. Those ol the east side, besides Hie ten acre building site, dmote to the State two hundred and sixty thousand dollars iu lots and lands. T^ie greater amotint being given by the eastern men, is doubt* est what ser ircd tbe location upon that tide. Why they could afford to donate thut largely in proportion to their num bers aad rokttvt wealth, pia«, f§ |g serp. The property in Fort hat been purchased at too highly allow of its being donated so largely,' and besides, the owners of thi* properly had delayed these donations too long.— It remains to be seen whether they will pnevent the executive sanction, defeat! the location already made, and thereby hazard the driving ot the capital entirejy from Fort Demoine, or whether they will contend themselves to hold on to what they have gained, and by securing other equally advantageous improvements, and. retaining the extensive business already ettablished, thereby matain the dttlrerf equilibrium. For our own part, our feelingt tnd prejudices were strongly in favor of tbe west side of the river, and if it were pos sible we would change the location this morning: but the committee differing from us, have seen fit, in view of securing, in their oppinion, the best interests of the State, to make the location on the other side. That cannot be thwarted now, without involving the risk of losing for ever to us the tocation of the capital. The question, then, is limited to this: The Capital on the east side cf the river, or not at all, in Fort Demoine. Then in view of the best interests of Fort De moine, of Central Iowa, and of the State, we feel bound to acquiesce in the present eeeac Sheriff'* Sale.
