,-3 4 i 4 Temperance Column. By the Ocala Temperance Reform Club. lid i ted by J. A. Munden. The Club met.-ts every Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in Temperance Hail, The Public are invited. V. C. T, L'. JX DALTI.MOKE. Last Sunday was truly White! Ribbcn Sunday in Baltimore, the National XV. C. T. U. Convention j beir in full blast. j Mammoth meetings, addressed i by eminent workers of national fame, were held in Music Hall, the various churches, and other build-j injs. Rev. Mrs. Katherine Lent Ste-, venson, corresponding secretary of the National W. C. T. U., preached the annual convention sermon at Music Mall. I An enthusiastic reception ' was j .given Mrs. Lauia Ormiston Chant of England, when she was present ed by Miss Willard. At the Y. M. C. A. Hall Sunday afternoon Mrs. Chant spoke to a I large audience of men on the evils of intemperance, and depicted the misery in the slums of London .traceable to the l qir r traffic. The Louisville Courier Journal ! says: A few years back every saloon in the city was called "Jack's j -"Jake's Place," according 1 ! iriace or jaice s nace. according" Til - to the name of the proprietor. This has given way to a most rid iculous custom of naming saloons after different saints. In the low er part of the city there is a "St. Peter's saloon," while Butcher town has one named "St. Paul," and one in the central portion of the city bears the title of "St. Jo seph's Palace." The saloon keeper .probably does not care so long as it attracts attention to his stand, but one can hardly imagine an un compromising saint like St. Peter viewing his name gilded in the window of a barroom with much complacency.
