SHADE THE HARD ROADS
Dr S H Blitch is deeply interested
in getting the county commissioners
of Marlon to begin the work of shad
r ing the hard roads He says they
should begin the work now and do it
on the Installment plan spend say
several hundred dollars a year and
place the trees where most needed
along stretches of road where no
trees exist With this amount of
money 200 a year a stretch of half
t
a mile of road shaded on either side
could be provided on the fine hard
roads leading out of Ocala and in a
few years every traveler along said
highway would rise up and bless the
memory of the thoughtful members of
our county board
These trees will not only be orna
mental and useful but the cooling
yY shadows they will throw across our
glaring highways where no trees now
exist will be a veritable blessing to
man and beast
a
Dr Blitch is so enthusiastic in the
I presentation of this attractive and
useful project that if our present
board will take the initiative in this
Important work he says he will obli
gate himself to donate several miles
i of trees and plant them along one of
r these roads
The Star heartily endorses the en
terprise and we trust our level headed
I and thorough going business board
will catch the full significance of this
worthy move and shove it along be
cause it is a really good thing

when the invitation was sung many

evening subject was The Plea of the

The Sunday school exercises in the
morning were full of interest and
largely attended A committee was
appointed to arrange for a Sunday
school picnic in due time I
At i 1 a m the pastor Rev J Ai
Hendry preached a fine sermon from
the text Study to show thyself ap
proved unto God a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed rightly di
viding the word of truth As is seen
by the text the preachers line of
thought was the equipment necessary
for effective Christian work
At 4 p m the Epworth League met
led by Dr A L Izlar and had a very
important topic for consideration
The Sacred Sabbath A great many
participated in the exercises A num
I ber of the most prevalent and deplora
ble factors in destroying the sanctity
of the Sabbath were discussed such as
Sunday mails authorized by the gov
ernment Sunday excursions Sunday
baseball and many other forms of
business and pleasure engaged in on
the holy Sabbath The importance of
attending religious exercises and of
doing good deeds on the Sabbath was
I
specially emphasized
At 730 p m the pastor preached I
an able sermon his line of thought be
ing that all mankind are servants to
some power and therefore how impor
tant that they sould be servants of
God
In the announcements the revival
services to be commenced by Miss
Emma L Tucker of Nashville on the
I first Sunday in May were specially
stressed She has conducted wonder
ful meetings in this state in the last
few years She Is now holding a big
revival in Ohio
