Inverness to which he delivered an
address Saturday morning and which

Mr DeWitt Smith one of the pros
perous farmers of near Oxford was
in the city today to secure an engine
with which his son C M Smith pro
poses to start a wood yard to supply
the Tampa demand He has an order
for a car a day Mr Smith brought
un a sack of pecans for C E Taylor
They are of his own growing He said
the tree these nuts came from bore
j 200 pounds and that he received for
the same 22 He has quite a grove of
young pecan trees and says in his esti
mation they are preferable to orange
trees for profit
4 Col Shipman who nas so accepta
bly managed the Montezuma hotel for
several months left today for Lees
burg where he takes charge t of the
Lake View House the leading hotel
of the place Col Shipman is a good
hotel man and will make a reputation
for the hotel he has taken charge of
and will do Leesburg good Ocala dis
likes to lose this genial gentleman but
our loss will be Leesburgs gain
The fixtures for the New Central
National Bank arrived Sunday over
the S A L R R and President
Ford telegraphed to New York City
for men to put them in position who
are expected here Wednesday and the
bank will be opened as soon as the
work can be done The placing of the
fixtures is part of the contract price
with the manufacturers
Hon C M Brown returned Satur
w day from the political rally at Gaines
ville where he addressed the people as
one of the gubernatorial candidates
Mr Brown says Gainesville is a Rob
ert W Davis and Holloway town but
that he expects a good vote in Alachua
county

the mercury registered 22 and 26 de
grees above zero Saturday night at
Postmaster Squires and Judge Alex

was done to the fruit or orange trees
Messrs Snow and McLane and Mrs
Brown prepared wood for firing but
the latter is the only one that did fire
her grove Mr Henry Spooner is
busy shipping his oranges and grape
fruit which are very fine His crop
will be fully 1600 boxes for which he
is receiving 450 and 325 per box
respectively
