A collection was taken and 8550 of
this was raised
The Baptist church adjourned their
morning session and united with the

The evening services were more
largely attended than those of the
morning the Baptists Christians and
Presbyterians joining in the services
and the annex to the main audience
room was thrown open for the recep

filled The text for the morning dis
course was taken from John 1232
And I if I be lifted up from the earth
will draw all men unto me
At night the bishop took for his text
John 1412 Verily verily I say unto
you he that believeth on me the works
that I do shall he do also and great
er works than these shall he do be
cause I go unto my Father
The bishop is a scholarly man a
deep thinker and a very logical and
impressive speaker a thorough stu

abounded with apt and forceful quota
tions of the great book to illustrate
emphasize and clinch his unanswera
ble arguments which he made for

THE FIRST WARD CONTEST
CONTESTj
A Voter of That Municipal Division I
Gives His Reasons for Supporting
Charlie Brown
I
Editor Star Tomorrow is the date
for our municipal election As to the I
mayoralty contest they are both good I
men and would do honor to our city
and enforce her laws with justice and
equity
Ours the first is the only ward in
which there is any contest for coun
cilman This is unfortunate as this
is an important position
The present city council has certain
ly not done what it should It has
laid itself liable to grave doubts as to
whether or not the citys work has
been given to the lowest bidder In
fact we have no proof that it has done
aught for the betterment of the city
Mr Gates our present alderman is
a good man and has done us no harm
but he has held his position a long I
time and I for one dont believe in
any man marrying an office to have
and to hold till death does them part
Of the candidates in the race Charley
Brown is the only one who made us
any promises or gave us any idea of
what he intended to do if elected
The others seem to be running on the I
platform of do as they please His I
planks regarding city water country
cattle Taylors pond street lights
councilmen not profiting by city con
tracts and equality before the law for
all meet the approval of every voter
I have met He is young and if he ex
pects higher political favors and no
doubt he does he must look well to
his conduct on the council as on the
record made there will depend his po
litical future
I have heard a great many citizens
in Ocala residing in other wards de
ploring the fact that they could not
vote for this rising young champion
of the people
Dont be influenced tomorrow by the I
ward heelers who are sure to be in ev
idence at the polls in the employ of
some wealthy candidate but cast your I
ballot with the majority of your
neighbors for C M Brown Jr the
young candidate who is not afraid to I
say what he will do J
Yours for the right
First Ward Voter
