i STATE COURT SUSTAINED
By the Supreme Court of the United
States and Rawlings and His
Sons Must Hang
Washington April iThe case of
J Q Milton Leonard and Jesse Raw
Ilivgs was yesterday decided by the
United States Supreme Court against
them This was a criminal proceed
ing against four men all of them
members of one family residing in
Lown s county Georgia on the
charge of murdering two children of
a family named Carter with which
family the Rawlingses had had a feud
It is charged that they employed a ne
gro named Moore to murder the entire
Carter family and some of the mem
bers of the Railings family accom
panied him to the Carter residence on
the night of the tragedy By making
a noise they attracted a small boy and
his young sister outside the house and
then shot them down Other members
of the family refused to come out and
therefore escaped
On the trial all of the members of
the Rawlings family whose names are
given except Leonard were found
guilty of murder and sentenced to
death and Leonard received the sen
tence of life imprisonment The su
preme court of Georgia affirmed the
verdict of the trial court and the case
was brought to the Federal supreme
court on an allegation of discrimina
tion in selecting the trial jury in that
all professional men were excluded
The court held that the men had not
been deprived of any constitutional
rights and sustained the decision of
the state courts
