FORGIVEN FOR THEIR FUN
But They Will be Careful who They
Have Fun with in Future
The two negroes that Mr W V
Chappell arrested and brought to jail
a few days ago for attempting to hold
him up on the Kendrick road turned
out to be employes of Mr Tillers tur

claimed that they thought Mr Chap I
pell was one of the men from the still J
and that they were in fun Mr Tiller
asked for a compromise he paying all
costs of court which was granted and
then men released They will probably
be careful who they try to have fun I

i BIG TEMPERANCE RALLY
AT DUNNELLON
Last night there was a big tem
perance rally held at Dunnellon The
weather was fine and several hundred
voters beside women and children as
sembled in the park to hear the peak
ing and join in the singing The meet
ing was opened by singing the very
effective temperance song When
j Christians Shall Vote as They Pray
I Rev Lambert spoke briefly upon the
moral side of the question Mrs E
I
H Mote always a beautiful singer
never sang more beautifully her song
A Little Bit of Love which was a
direct appeal to the men and women
About 50 of the bright boys and girls
of Dunnellon sang with great spirit
The Whisky Shops Must Go Hon
John S Beard of Pensacola followed
I
next in a strong speech Mr Beard
spoke for an hour and a half and held
his audience from start to finish Fol
lowing was the popular chorus Its
Coming sung with great enthusiasm
by the crowd led by the chlldrens
I chorus with Mrs Robert Blake at the
organ Mr W DCarn county super
intendent next gave some striking
statements among which were Not
a dollar of money from saloon license
goes to building up the schools of Ma
rlon county Not a dollar of its goes
to hard roads Not a dollar of it goes
to the new courthouse building in
Ocala Eyes were opened by Mr
Carn for no one questioned that he
knew whereby he spoke The saloon
men have been reported as telling a
different story concerning the great
good accomplished by liquor money
throughout the county Mrs E Van
Hood as a representative of the W C
T U spqke from a womans viewpoint
and told some heartrending incidents
caused by liquor which had come un
der her own observation during the
past few months The temperance
meeting being over the women and
children went to their homes and Mr
Robert McNamee the paid champion
of the liquor side made a speech or
better gave a reading from some
manuscripts which had already had
wide circulation and endeavored to
prove their authenticity and point the
I
force of their arguments He also
gave some news from Maine but the
crowd was noot enthusiastic Maine Is
too far away He failed to tell of the I
great strides temperance is making in
the Southland and of the prosperity of
counties and states having prohibi
tion laws Mr McNamee has a pleas
Ing address and if he had a good sub
ject could make a H good Speech Mr
Beard had the closing speech in which
he demolished the spurious arguments
of Mr McNamee to the entire satis
faction of the arUisaloon forces It
was a great time The citizens of Dun
nellon were the soul of courtesy and
hospitality for which their guests were
profoundly thankful
