Gordon in the crim inal court of record on Ed Braxton and Alfred Wadkins. the two negroes who pleaded guilty to robbing B. F. Lyons. an aged white man, at the race track Saturday morning. While pleading guilty to getting the money, about $150. both of the negroes denied that they had assaulted 'Mr. Lyons, each claiming that the other one did that part of it. Under the circumstances, however, both would be equally guilty. In court yesterday Mr. Lyons, who is about seventy years old but active for his age, was a horrible sight. His head and face were partly bound up but the bandages did not cover all of the wounds and bruises. His eyes and throat were livid and there remained the black and blue marks where he had been hit on the side of the head and face with a stick of wood. Mr. Lyons stated that he was rendered un conscious by the first blow and did not know what happened to him after that, but Solicitor Iianey believes, from the marks, but one of the men continued to beat Mr. Ions while the other one choked him. Solicitor Raney stated yesterday that the assault and robbery was one of,the most brutal that had ever come under his notice and in passing sentence Judge Gordon told the men that they deserved to have some one beat their brains out as they had attempted to do to Mr. Lyons. One of the negroes. Wadkins. is less than twenty-five years old. Both were working at the track and had ample opportunity to know that Mr. Lyons, who owned several horses, carried large sums of money with him Tampa Tribune. This is Mr. B. F. Political crimes are not uncommon in Persia and the revolutionists, when caught are dealt with summarily.
