An Infernal Machine Sent by Some
Hcreant to the Governor of
Pennsylvania
Pittsburg, Ta., Nov. 26. What is be
lieved to have been an attempt to kill
Gov. John K. Tener, of Pennsylvania,
was discovered at Charleroi, Ta., yes
terday. An ingeniously constructed
infernal machine containing power, a
match, piece of steel, and a small piece
of paper, inscribed, "drive the republi
can bosses out," was sent to the gov
ernor, and now is in the hands of the
United States postal authorities. A
rigid investigation is under way.

Douglas, Ga., Nov. 26. J. F. Barnes,
prominent farmer about 45 years old
residing in the southern edge of
Douglas, was bitten yesterday after
noon about 3 o'clock by a. spider and
died a violent death about 8 o'clock
last night, as a result of the poisonous
bite.

revolt that has occurred in
Mexico broke out yesterday
Nicolas in the state of Querataro,
where Maximilian met his final defeat.
The Reyistas were repulsed by soldiers
of Madero. The loss was heavy on
both sides. Forty rebels were taken
prisoners, wounded. The Reyistas are
preparing to send an emissary to
Washington, as Madero did a year ago.

terest than the preliminary talk about
the Grand Prize race was the an
nouncement last night that the contest
committee had barred Barney Oldfield
from the press stand, after a pass had
been issued to him as a representative
of a local newspaper. Oldfield was sus
pended from the American Automobile
Association several months ago be
cause he participated in an unsanction
ed race wit.h Jack Johnson, the pugil
ist. The committee ruled that report
ing the races for a newspaper con
stituted "participation" in the contest
in violation of the rules of the association.

cording to a telegram from the acting
governor of Morelos to General Fi
guerca here, 800 Zapatists led by Gen
eral Zapata were defeated by about
450 federals under Garcia Aragon at
Santa Ana after an all-day battle yes
terday, including Jesus Moreles. a
leader who has made much trouble
for the government, and many others
were wounded.
