Milton of Marianna. one of the candidates for the office of gov ernor, will address the voters of this section, from the band stand in the court house square, Thursday eve ning. April 18th, at 7:30 o'clock, on the Issues of the campaign. Mr. Milton is a successful business man, is making a vigorous campaign for governor on progressive business issues and will interest all who hear him. He is a good talker and the Star would like for the people to turn out and give him a hearing. ASSOCIATION OF POSTAL, CLERKS WILL MEET IN OCALA The third annual state convention of the United National Association of Postoffice Clerks will meet in Ocala May 29th and 30th, as guests of the Ocala Branch No. 758. The convention of 1910 was held inieryone thoroughly enjoyed the pic- i ' -n 3 - r -i ri -i , , . I i Jacksonville and that of 1911 was hehl in Tampa. Both conventions were largely attended and the delegates and visitors were entertained in a splendid manner by the local branches. The Ocala Branch of this associa tion Is making preparations to have a pleasant and profitable meeting, and to entertain the delegates and visitors in a manner worthy of Ocala's name for hospitality. One feature of the entertainment will be a trip down Silver Springs run and the Oklawaha river on the "City of Ocala" in the afternoon of the 13th, the return trip to be made by moon light. Refreshments will be served on board the boat. While this association is not fre quently mentioned in the press, it embraces in its membership a large majority of the. postoffice clerks of the United States, and has a mutual ben efit Branch which insures its members at moderate rates. Every postoffice of any size will be represented at the convention. The citizens of Ocala as well as the local Branch of the U. N. A. of P. O. C. as sures every delegate a pleasant and interesting time. DISTINGUISHED GUEST COMING Hon. Jefferson B. Browne, of Key West, district deputy grand exalted ruler, B. P. O. E.. for the southern district of Florida, and one of the state's most prominent men, will be in the city Thursday, April 18th. for the purpose of paying Ocala Lodge No. 286 an official visit. Mr. Browne has been district deputy for this section for two terms and is very popular with the local Elks. TWO CARS OF MATERIAL Messrs. Jenkins & Williams unload ed a car of cement Saturday and a car of brick yesterday for the Hotel Har rington job. Peacock. Mr. and Mrs. R. L Keating have re turned from a visit to Mr. Keating's parents at Daytona. They were ac companied by Mr. Keating's sister, who will be their guest for some weeks. Mrs. Claude Nelson and little son, Claude, junior, will leave Monday for Columbia. S. C. where they will re main for the entire summer with Mr. Nelson's relatives. Mr. A. T. Thomas has sold an inter est in the Woodrriar Sand and Stone' Company to Messrs. Thomas Jamieson and James Thomson. These two in dustrious young men and skilled ma sons are competent to carry on the good work that the company is famous for. They have a large quantity of work contracted for and in sight, and with the immense amount of new side walks needed and the steady growth ! of the city, their services are likely to be in active demand for an indef inite period. Messrs. Jamieson and Thomson have been residents of Ocala for some years and have made them selves an enviable name for good work and faithful performance of contracts. Mr. C. E. Connor tells of a funny in cident he witnessed on the southbound Coast Line train yesterday. Mr. Con nor, carrying a basket, in which were several young guineas, boarded the train on his way to Eastlake. In the seat opposite to him was a lady who had with her a hen in a sack and a parrot in a cage. The train stopped longer than usual, and after waiting a while one of the guineas became rest less and struck up its peculiar note. This frightened the hen, and she be gan to cackle. And on hearing the noise, the parrot, which must have been brought up by a sailor, yelled: "Shut up; dam you." CITY COUNCIL IN SESSION The city council met last evening with the following members present: Messrs. Carroll. Tydings, Helvenston, Duval, Weihe and Faust tt. The meet ing was an adjourned one from last Thursday to continue the equalization of the city's assessments on real and personal property. The gentlemen labored until 12:30 on the difficult and thankless problem and were not half through when adjournment was taken till this evening at 7:0 o'clock, w.hen the work will be continued, and the business of the regular mid-monthly session disposed of. HOV SCOUTS MEETING Wednesday afternoon there "will a big meeting of the Boy Scouts be at the Air Dome promptly at 5 o'clock. All of the boys that want to join and those that expect to go on the "hike" Friday are urged to be present at this meeting, as final instructions will be given for the "hike." SELLING OVERLAND AND CADILLAC CARS Messrs. Knight Lang sold an Ov erland touring car today to Mr. W. B. McKenzie of Romeo. This firm has sold and delivered six 1912 Overlands and six 1912 Cadillacs. Mr. Z. C. Chambliss will go to Tam pa tomorrow to attend the meeting next day of the Florida Citrus Ex change. The fate of this great state institution depends upon what is done at the meeting in Tampa and the Star sincerely hopes that if will be given every encouragement and . its future put on a business basis of support that will leave no doubt as to its existence. With the prospects of the largest crop of oranges the state has ever known, there is imperative need of the Flor ida Citrus Exchange. f The W. C. T. C mothers meeting will be held at the residence of Mrs. W. T. Gary on Fort King avenue on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mrs. M. E. Randall will speak, and an interesting program has been prepar ed. A cordial invitation is extended to all women interested, and especially to mothers. Mrs. Campbell Gray and children will leave in a short time for the mountains of North Carolina, to re main till their new home, the Epis copal rectory, is completed. Mrs. Mollie Marsh of Daisy, who has been visiting her children at Kissim mee, has returned home. She stopped at Ocala a day or so to visit Mrs. A. P. Geiger and family. Rev. T. S. Miss Belle Hendrix of Morriston sprang quite a surprise upon their many friends last Thursday afternoon when they came over to Rev. A. L Prisoc's at Berlin, and were married. A few of their close friends knew of their engage ment but did not expect their mar riage until later. After a brief trip to Ocala and Jacksonville they are now at home at Morriston, receiving the congratulations of their friends. Mrs. Mitchell nee Miss Hendrtx, is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L T. Hendrix of Morriston and is a most estimable young lady. Mr. Mitchell came to Florida from Florence, S.. C, three years ago and is a young man of sterling qualities, and now holds a responsible position with the D. B. Morrison Co., of Morriston The Star joins their many friends in wishing them all happiness and good fortune. D. Circumstances have arisen preventing solicitors from going to many places, but the U. D. C. hope the ladies of Ocala will have con tributions ready on dates mentioned. Their hope will be most sincerely ap preciated. The lecture recital to be given at "S o'clock this evening by the ladies' Wednesday Morning Musicale promis es to be very delightful. The chorus of some thirty voices will sing the cantata, "The Lady of Shallott." Pre ceding the chorus there will be a short descriptive lecture explaining the poem, and the musical interpretation of the same. All music lovers should attend. The entertainment will be held in the 'Woman's Club building be ginning' at 8 o'clock. Mr. Byron Layne of Tampa is in the cityl visiting his mother and sister, Mrs. I ayne and Mrs. George Chambers. Mr. Layne went across the Gulf from T.lmpa to Galveston by boat and re turned to Ocala by rail. Ed Williams, colored, who stole a pair of pants from Mr. Goldman Sat urday night, was given six months on the roads in Judge Bell's court this morning. Mrs. II. M. Hampton and party of friends will go to Daytona Beach to morrow morning via Orlando, and spend three days at the Seaside Inn, then return home via another, route. They will go in the big Maxwell car. and Mr. Ed Tucker, district distributor for the Maxwell cars, will drive the machine. Mrs. Hampton's guests will be Miss LeFils of Jacksonville, who is visiting Mrs. Hampton, Miss Cecile Downs and Miss Esther Ley. County Commissioner Sam Petteway of Dunnellon was in town today, doing some electioneering for his friend and former neighbor. Judge W. M. Gober, in his candidacy for county judge. Mr. William Hocker has returned from several days absence and while gone did a lot of good work for his friend. Col. S. M. Sparkman in his race for re-election to Congress from this district. The ten-months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irby Knoblock of Martin died this morning.' The little one was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery this afternoon. Mclver & MacKay had charge of the funeral arrangements. One of the laws passed at the lart session of the legislature requires all restaurants to be screened. A couple of Ocaal restaurant owners, who were neglectful of the law, were reminded of it by being hauled up In Judge Bell's court and fined yesterday. Mrs. F. J. Hagood of Jacksonville, who has been visiting relatives at St. Petersburg, stopped on her way home today to visit her sister, Mrs. T. M. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Gay C.
