FOURTEEN OCALA EVENING STAR, MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1922 V J LESTER WILLIAM PONDER The subject of this sketch, whom all the boys in the store have so kindly dabbed as "John" (presumably be cause John is such an aristicratic same) hails from our sister state of Georgia. He was born less than fifty years ago. He flatly refused to di vulge his age, merely pointing to his gray hair and as his hair did show a tinge of gray and somewhat thin, we were sorry we asked him to tell hi3 age. Almost thirteen years ago he took onto himself a "rib" and made tracks for Florida, where he has resided ever since, as he says Florida "beats 'em an." When at the age of seventeen he began work in an office and has push ad the pen. constantly for twenty-two years. Now you know how old he is. When first coming to Florida he was engaged by the firm of Mclver & IfacKay as head bookkeeper, which position he held steadily for eight years, resigning to accept a position with the Commercial Bank of Ocala as assistant casnier. ne neia tnat position with the bank for one year, resigning to accept a position as bookkeeper and assistant manager of the Ocala Iron Works. He was with the Iron Works for over two years, j but he longing to get back "home," as j he expressed it, became so irresistible that one day he broke into the office again and the firm felt so sorry for him they did not have the heart to turn him away. He acts as though he were the head boss in the office that is, when Mr. Parr i3 not in. With his many years of varied ex perience in accounting work he is well fitted to fill the position he now holds with the firm. Advertise in the Evening Star. Consider "Stay rtag an Irsuit.
