The Expression of a ZVumlspr of Our

The Times has been engaged fir several
days in feellngthe public pulse In regard to
holding a fair here this fall. It has found,
everywhere, a strong feeling in lis favor, and
from the expression of a number of citizens,
given below. It seems that the one thing
needful now to Inaugurate a movement
which will result lu one of the best fairs ever
held In the city. Is for tome one to give the
matter a little lm petus, l.y cal.lng a public
meeting lo take decisive steps In ihe matter.
That this will be done at early day, there I
every reason to believe, as already there are
gentlemen at work In the matter.
Buttheexpresslon or Individual opinions
Is a belter criterion than anj thing else, and
the following are a few of the Interviews
had with with representative citizens upon
the matter:
in tumors, nodes, hard lumps, and syphi

dyspepsia, rheumatism, rickets; In mercurial
deposits It Is in these terrible forms ot dis

existence Is torture, wherein this great reme

almost supernatural agency it restores the

is recoverable, not by the ute o! mineral te

treatment. Opiates and the like should only
be used as auxiliaries, and then as sparingly
as poss'ble. Vigorous nerves are quiet onest
and the mo,t direct way to render them so Is
to reinforce the vital energies. That sterling
lnvigorant, Hostetter's Stomach bitters, will
be found all sufficient for this purpose, since
it entirely removes iniedlments to thorough
di,estlon and assimilation of the food, so
that the body Is Insured lis due amount oj
nourishment, and consequently of itamlna.
Rheumatic tendencies and affections of the
kidneys and bladder are also counteracted
by the Bitters, which is besides a pleasant
medicinal stimulant, infinitely purer than
the raw excitants of commerce, which react
injuriously upon the neivous system.

Thns It Is seen that the charge of seduction

great injustice by not publishing the report

Furthermore, a reporter or an editor that
makes charges against parties upon rumor,
aud withholds the names or tbe actors, from
the fact that hewonlibe hoiden aincnab e

The committee that investigated the stories

WAKTS VlalTOra TO SEE US.
Mr. M. A. Wohlfrom, one of the oldest grc

said: "I wish they would get up a good fair,
aud not as heretofore overburden strangers
who come here. We want strangers to see
what we have in our city, and want them to
come willingly. We do not want them to
take our word lor It."

Mr. Ph. Rothschild, the hatter, said : "Yes,
sir. Have n'.fair, but don't be behind every
body else, let us do anything to show Leav
enworth to strangers who don't seem to want
to know anything about the place. It will
only require a short visit to show them that
we are not dead, as we have permitted our
enemies to falsely stale."
IT WOULD EK A SOVBXTr.
Hon. Alex. Caldwell, when asked what be
thought about ltsald: "It would be a novelty
to have a flrst-cltss fair, and I think with
the proper vim Leavenworth can produce
that kind of a novelty; but it will require
hard work and plenty of it."
A GUARASTEZ FUND.
Mr. M. Hofmann said: "I am in favor of

It, They should have it early. It will re

W. A. Rose was found busy bat took Ume
to say: "I would like to see oue if they
could make it a success. If there is such a
thing I will take hold aud try to help it; but
there have been so many failures that I feel
a little discouraged Leavenworth ought to
have good fair every year."
DOS'! WAST A FIZZLE.
A. A. Feun, said. "Fizzles are naturally
a bore and I have no opinion to offer. A
first-class fair would be a good thlr g. Before
I could express an opinion, I would have
to look the ground over. It depends a good
deal on the character of the m;n who take

These people, it is well-known, arrived
here not only deplorably destitute, but
many of them utterly helpless.
home time prior to their arrival.; feeling Jit
to 1 our duly to prepare to receive our
brethren who were scon to arrive, we called
a meeting of the cltlzens.of theA. M. E.
Church, ou Kiowa street, at which time a
committee of colored men was appointed to
devise plans by which we might assist them.
This committee has been diligent. It has
worked arduously and has .succeeded in rais
ing means In various ways, and up to this
time there has been no assistance, rendered,
other than that influenced by this commit
tee, except that last week there was one box
and three barrels of clothing sent by the
committee at fct. Louis to this committee.
A large number of these people have gone
out, rented houses and have succeeded also
lu getting work; but we have yet on our
hands several families, some of whom are
sick and need assistance. These are calling
onlhe Colored Committee daily for aid. The
committee has done everything possible to

burying one of their number on the .Tdinst.
leaves our treamry nDout exhausted. Sow,
