of America, has given out the follow
ing statement regarding the secret
conference between his organization
nnd the coal operators:
"The sub-committee of operators and
minora wleotcd by the Industrial
branch of the Notional Civic Federa
tion fulled to reach nn agreement up
on any of the Important Issues em
bodied In the miners' scale adopted
by tho Shamoklu convention.
"The exectitlvo committee of the
throo anthracite coal districts of the
United Mine Workers of America, In
whom is vested the authority 'to In
augurate a strike, have been notified
to assemble at Scranton, Pa at 10 a.
m., Wednesday, May 7. This commit

majority of them vote lit favor of a
