Mrs. M. T. Wright will address ho Mntforn' f!lh at Brunswick this Friday afternoon. The New Century club will have a picnic this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Irving Kennedy. The Sorosis club held the first meeting of the year at the home of Mrs. E. T. Pierce Friday. Mrs. C E. Hoover entertained last Thursday night in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Kapp of San Jose, Calif. Advertised letters at the Medina postoffice are for: Harter Milling Co., Mrs. W. H. Speck, and Mrs. Birdie Sharpe. The Golden Rule circle of King's Daughters decorated the graves of their deceased members Thursday af ternoon. There will be another matinee given by the driving club tomorrow, which will likely be the last one of the season. The ladies of the M. E. church will give a shower for Mrs. Norman Clark at the home of MrsrC. E. Hoov er to-night The trustees and their wives of the Congregational church had a pic nic supper at the home of W. L. Boy den Friday of last week. Regular meeting of the Ladies of the Maccabees and picnic supper at 6 o'clock to-night at K. of P. hall. All members are requested to be present Miss Helen Clark gave a very fine rendition of the poem, "A Friend to Man," at the Methodist church on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the sermon. Our thanks are due to Mr. E. 0. Walts for the photo from which the illustration of the Sunday's corner stone laying was made. Mary Mott, employed at the home of H. H. Root, was removed to a hos pital in Cleveland Thursday morning to undergo an operation. The Ladies' Aid Society of the M, ' E. church gave a shower at the home of Mrs. Newton Friday night in honor of Miss Jeanette Webber. There will be a meeting of the New Century club and picnic supper at the home of Mrs. I. H. Kennedy on North Court street this afternoon. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Riemenschneider of Berea sor rowfully received the news that their youngest child and only daughter, aged two years, died last Friday even ing. J Tuesday evenine the officers of the Standard Bearers entertained the members at a 6 o'clock tea at the home of their newly elected president Miss Florence Phillips. The Chippewa Camp Fire girls held their monthly ceremonial meet ing at the home of Miss Inez Brock way on West North street Light refreshments were nerved. Word has just been received of the marriage on August 29 of Mrs. ; Adelaide Kellogg of Columbus to Mr. Z. M. Rhodes of Black Lick, 0. Mrs. Kellogg is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Windsor Whipple. Medina Chapter, 0. E. S. will hold their Memorial service at St. Paul's church on Sunday, Oct 11, at 4 p. m. The Masonic fraternity and their families and all Eastern Stars are invited to attend. . On Wednesday Carl Huffman, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Huffman was united in marriage to Miss Sallie Mabel Huller of Rose mont, Va. The couple have the con gratulations of many Medina friends. The Sunday school of the Meth odist church is preparing for its an nual Rally day services to be held on Sunday October 18 from 10:30 to 12. Superintendent D. R. Pelton is pre paring an attractive program of music and exercises. . - Mr. Clair Bowman while quieting a frightened horse during the - fire works Wednesday night was thrown to the ground, badly injuring his knee. He was taken to Dr. Damon's office and then to his home on West Friend ship street His injury was painfull and he will be laid up for a week. The Epworth League of the Meth odist church is to have a Fall Rally this evening at 7:30 o'clock. There will be an interesting program in eluding addresses by Professor Ward of Baldwin-Wallace college of Berea, and Professor W. S. Edmund of Me dina Public Schools. Refreshments will be served. All members and friends of the Epworth Leag'.e are cordially invited. " Bible study, eight lectures, will be given by Dr. M. The proposed constitutional . amendments will be discussed and plans presented for the organization of Medina township. This meeting is for everybody, wet or dry, and for men, women and chuldren. On 'Sunday two went out for a drive a fellow and his best one, and after heading south while they loped off for Creston. When midway to the journey's end and both were gay and talky, the sudden stopping of the rig gave proof the horse was balky. The fellow raved and tore his hair: his words were not divine, ah; so as he couldn't go that way, he went back to Medina. (Ask the Shrimp). There was a meeting of Pythian Sisters officers in Medina Thursday for the purpose of electing new offi cers for the coming year. While here they were the guests of Trustee Mrs. Mary Neel. Nine new members were elected, but the twenty ladies consti tuting the building committee of the Sophia Huntington Home were re tained another year, that they may continue until thecompletion of the home. A few weeks ago, while racing on the fair grounds at Medina, the horse that Frank Case was driving collided with another one coming from the opposite way. Last Saturday . Mr. Case was driving again and when he came around to the same place they met another driver and horse and it seemed to frighten Case's horse and the latter plunged up in the air and with his hind feet trampled on Mr. Case. The latter was cut and bruised on his arm and shoulder and suffered a severe cut on his chin, requiring medical help. Case had a narrow escape for his life. Hoping to thwart any mischief that might be dv.e them, Mrs. Alice Randall, until last -Wednesday chief clerk in the county treasurer's office, and A. C. Canfield of Litchfield, com monly known as "Bye" wended their way (after dark) down the ' back streets, we are told, to the home of Probate Judge Kennan where they procured the license and forthwith ran all the way to the Congregational church, where Rev, H. S. Fritsch was in waiting to tie the knot Oh yes, it was last Saturday night, instead of to-morrow, night as they led the un suspecting would-be onlookers to believe. m w w -v....- , yjr . m A. SEVILLE Messrs. C. N.. Taylor -and Aram Rohrer spent the forepart of the week together at Chicago visiting the stock yeards and looking after .busi ness interests. Mr. Chas. McDowell has purchased the Austin property on Milton street and expects soon to take possession. Mr. and Mrs. Austin will move their household goods to Cleveland Monday morning. We feel congratulations are in order for Mr. McDowell and family, but regret that we must lose the Austin's. The Wayne Ccunty Fair is on this week. Among those who are expecting to attend from our burg are: C. N. Taylor, Don Crawford, Geo. Morton and John Eshelman. The means of locomotion now-a- days are so many it is hard work to keep tab on all the comings and going Mrs. Lee Elliott with a party of her friends, are touring the sights of some of our near by towns, which is certainly worthy of commendation. For instance, the salt works at. Rit- man, match works at wads worth and the Barber farm at Barberton and while we are thinking about it, we wonder how many of us are appreciat ing the beautiful sights we are sur rounded with here in our own Medina county and during these autumn days with the finely tinted, forests and all the songs and calls of the birds. Real ly it fills one full of admiration and gratitude until our hearts respond to the song of the poet who wrote: "A mist on the far horizon, The tender, infinite sky; . . The ripe, rich tint of the corn field, And the wild geese soaring high. And all over upland and lowland,, The glow of the golden rod; ... , Some of us call it autumn, . Others call It God." Mrs. Margaret Little, who has been sojourning in our rural district, has shipped her household goods to Col umbus, where she will spend the win ter, Mr. F. P. Wideman has so far re covered from his injuries as to be able to ride about and although crippled, will be able to attend the Wayne county fair at Wooster, going via auto Mr. Justin Hay and son Eugene, spent Tuesday in Cleveland.
