Truly your friend, Geo. E. Welles, President of the Society of the Survivors of the 68th 0. V. I. S. Gillis, Secretary. A Total Eclipse of the Moon. Denver, Col., June 17, 1881 En. Northwest : Perhaps the most hardened villain and dreaded man in Col orado (Jim Moon by name,) was shot and instantly killed in a saloon, on Larimer Street, this city, yesterday at 11 o'ejock a. m., by Clay Wilson, a Faro Dealer in the defunct Luminary's gambling house, slight description of this Lunar body which so suddenly collapsed may bo of in terest. Moon came to Colorado some five or six years ago, and has been the terror of the town ever since. He has killed three men in Denver, but always managed to defeat the hand of justice. A short time ago he defied the whole police force to ar rest him, and with a brace of six shooters in his hand walked off, and not a man . dared follow him. Wilson, the slayer of Moon, came here from Leadville about four weeks ago an! worked for Moon as stated above. They had some words the night before, when Moon thrust a revolver in Wilson's face and threatened to kill him; Wilson begged off, and yesterday morning they met in the Arcado. Moon began on Wilson again and reached for his revol ver, but he never got it out, Wilson was too quick lor him and fired four bullets in to him quicker than I can write it. Two took effect just below the heart, another threugh the neck and tho fourth through the hip. Moon died instantly. His body was taken to the morgue and Wilson to jail. Old Jim stood off the whole Pacific force, but he could'nt stand off the Coro ner, who went to prospecting in the Moon for lead, he found four good leads which netted him about ?20. It has been said of those men of the West that they would go prospecting any place that they could make a strike, but this is the first instance where they evor struck lead in the Moon: Napoleon Abroad.
