Men: I am a Democrat. Many oj you are Republicans. 1 shall vote for Hancock. You can vote for whom jozilover the State, asking people to vote ;of the people to justify apprehension of a change now. Danger is no! so much to be feared from any one man, nor has it yet be come necessarv, as was once saia oi Hussia, that the dagger be made the constitution. It is political ani mosities and powerful combinations of individuals for raercinary purposes from which republican governments mav justly apprehend evil. Nor is it minorities whicft need De learea. Hi popular governments minorities al ways represents political punty. Within the cuts of minorities are none of the temptations of place, power or plunder to bring to its altar adventurers and seekers of personal Aggrandizement. From monopolies and the sycophants of power, should those in place prove corruptible, much .evil may be dreaded, and from factions in majorities revolutions feared. The feud in the Republican party engendered by mercenaries, has been most intense. Uorruption cas en gulfed those in high position. Sena torial robes have been soiled by the greed of placemen, and rivalry for plunder has begotten a personal ani mosity which culminated in assassina tion, and one in whom the whole i . country had confidence has fiallen to 'give place to a New York Gambler. Well may we ask: What of the fu ture? As through blood the tyrant to the throne, so through assassination the stalwart to power. We counsel the minority to be watchful, true in its devotion to tho principles of republican government as taught by the founders and ever ready to rally to the support of the Union and the maintenance of the Constitu tion. A man like Charlie Foster going please. This establishment will notl dose no matter who is elected- JOHNl W. BOOKWALTER. Bookwalteb is uiovinir over the State at a rapid rate andj m an ef fective way that brings consternation to 'C Foster. ' The last Legislature increased the salary of Secretary of State Townsend after he had taken the oath of office to, serve for 2,500. They only gave him $1,000 extra! TiiE election of John W. Bookwal ter means the endorsement of Presi dent Garfield, because Foster above all! Other men, is the representative of the vicious spoils system in Ohio. The action of the skilled artisans in endorsing the Democratic platform, as regards' the abolition of the convict contract system, has alarmed the Re publicans and in some localities they (ire proclaiming in favor of the abo lition of the last "relic of human slav ery." , 'John Sherman Bays: "The Repub licaa platform is its history." But John didn't mean the history of the , paat'iix months' with "its SYar route ex- poiures it rnall thieves,.'. i$s briberies' at Albany, its stepJ ladder scenes' nd finally, the foul assassination of the President by a Stalwart Republican of fice seeker! for him because the President was shot by a similar stalwart olhce seeker, is disgusting the respectable Republi cans of the State. The logic attempted is that because one stalwart shot the President, the people should vote for another stalwart, and the Democrats who despise both stalwarts, had noth ing to do with the quarrel over the spoils of office, should be the sufferers, The country will not be deceived by a party which tries to make capital ou of the President's condition. The pur poses for which these extravagancies are uttered are notorious and make tLem doubly reprehonsiblo. To at tempt to coin the sympathies of the people for a suffering President is in famous. Such a man as Foster would steal the clothes off his death bed for a campaign flag. "C" Foster says '-his" refunding of the State debt, by which the people are burdened ten years longer with an interest bearing debt, is great finan- cering. uenerai jotin Jtseatty, a prom inent Republican Banker, says the whole transaction is the lowest kind of demagoging. ' ; i At Youngatown1 the otherday, while (J." It is with regret that we hear Dem-! crats of Henry county proclaim that they intend to vote against some one or more of their nominees, inese men profess to be Democrats, and noi loubt they are sincere and cordial be-( ievera in the principles and general policy of the Democratic party. They would be sorely grieved to learn when, too late that their action had defeated the party they love and honor. Butj have they reflected upon the fact thati their course gives the greatest comforti and encouragement to the common po litical-enemy? Have they considered that by their acts they may defeat the election of a Democratic Legislature which is to re-apportion the State for Congressional purposes, and that such a defeat may effect the political con trol of the next congress? A re,. they aware that they are thus aiding to de feat the Democratic candidate for Gov ernor? "We do not believe that anyi one of them wishes thus to defeat theirH party. Slost certainly they have',' not counted upon the cost of such action. They do not reflect upon the embar- rassment thrown upon the Democrats, and the inc-ease of labor thereby made necessary to carry the party to ictory. Democrats, let us stop and consider.
