The rest morning after tbe Democratic jollification tbe side-walks on tbe South side ct the river wets cesf altered, at in tervals, with a mixture, which, to a pass ing observer, wcu'd suggest tbe ida that there bad been an unusual number of sick men on t ha street the night before. It would also suggest the somewhat pecu liar idea that every man afflicted with tbe vomit bad partaken of precisely the same kindoffocden tbe evening cf the jollifi cation; and, furthermore, it would sug' gest tbe ridiculous idea that not one of the atBhted bipeds ha any teeth, or that they were too lazy to use them, and that tbe threats of tbe sufferers were larger than those of tbe full grown ox. We have'nt learned whether any of tbe mix ture was submitted to a cherriral analy sis, to ascertain whether it contained any gastrlcjuice, or bile, or any of tbe fluids that assimilate with food upon being ta ken into tbe stomach; but it did not re quire any other instrment than the naked eye to discover that the stuff bad never been masticated, and that every man who deposited tbe contents of bis stomach on tbe side-walk had swallowed a boiled po tato with the skin on it, and each man had beans for supper, also beets, which weru swallowed in square chunks with out mastcation. Several theories miebt be advanced here, as to the origin of these disgusting splotches, but from facts devel oped, no more ptausioieone can -De sug gested than, that the highly moral and fastidious South Side Republicans cooked up the mess and scattered it abroad tor the purpose of casting a stigma upon the uemocraticiuoiiee. - Rock Salt. Girls, do yon realise that in five short, fleeting weeks leap year will be reconed with tbe irredeemable past, and that its glorious privileges, bestowed upon you by universal custom, gone to roost, as it were, on the jagged and cragged peaks of impenetrable loturity T Do you, dear girls, realize that before thirty-six moons have rolled over your frizzled bangs the Magnolia Balm tree may have been blast ed by a cruel simoon), and tbe aesthete silk-worm may have curled himself up in bis pod and joined that innumerable cara van that gray-balred bards sing about, preachers preach about snd rotund un dertakers long forT Do you, my eflemln ste dears, ever reflect that "all flesh is grass" and before another bissextile year shall have rolled around tbe viscious and unrelenting grasshopper may b ave invad ed tbe seal plantations of tbe Esquimaux and devoured tbe sealskin racque plant root and branch; does it ever occur to you in your frivolous career that King Alco hol and the ambergris whale may pool tbeir issues and run perfumery up to a thousand dollars sn ounce, or that Bar num and tbe bull elephant, In the jungles of Africa, may get a corner, on ivory'and run false teeth up so high that even s Vandertilt would have to gom it? Aye, dear, fickle-minded creatures, before tbe light and privileges of another leap year shall have dawned upon ycur gaudy win ter bonnets, all tbe elements of feminine beauty may have faded into transparent nctbingnes'S a d the am pit iocs but none the less susceptible masculine bipeds will behold you as you ate. Then, rojse ye, from your lethargy; go lorth in your daz zling might; grasp some rosy-i beaked op portunity by bis flaxen scalp-lock and jerk him into tbe middle of matrimony before it is irrevoc ably and eve lastingly too late. It you don't tbe town gossip may dispose of the one of your choice and henceforth there will be a sorely aching void in your gentle bosom; aud, perchance you may go tottering down the corridors of time, a bald-beaded, toothless old maid sorrowfully bumming to yourself that mournful Btraln "No one to love and none to caress." A Red Hot Weiner-wurst can always be found at O. Eohler's. ti Florida News. Tbe Democrats of this viclo-ty beld s jollification in honor of the election of Cleveland and Hendricks on l?stSa urday night. A precession was formed, with torch lights and banners, beaded with a steam engine, which kept up a constant whistling, much to tbe discu mature of our Republican fiiends. During the march it was one long and loud hurrah for Cleveland and Hendricks. During the jollification one of the smart Alick Republicans became so incensed that he could contain himself no longer, and be commenced to shout for Jeff Davis. Tbe Democrats pittied the poor fool and took it in good humor; otherwise tbey would have given him a good threshing. They adhered to the mctto, "Never bit a fool or strike a cripple." The d'splay and enthusiasm of the Democrats made the Republicans hcarVs ick, but tbey will come around all right when they get used to their medicine. At about 6 o'clock Sunday morning fire was discovered in a boure in tbe lower end ot town, and it was at once laid at th9 deer of the naugbtbty Democrats by a few heart-coutreetf d Repots. But t s the fire was in a closet, in tbe bouse, that Utile game was soon exploded. The' damage was not great. But a few days ago we heard two Rj publicans singing "While Blaine goes marching to the White House." Now, we would suggest a slight change in the words, something like this: Well sound th3 good old bugle boy, We'll have another song ; Sing it with a chorus, That will tt the world along; Sing it a wc used to sing it, Fifty thousand strong; While Blaine goe marching up Salt River. Bidgeville Items. The Democratic jollifi cation here laft Thursday evening was quite an affair. A large crowd of people wete in attendance, and their enthusiasm over tbe election of Cleveland was Intense, and manifested itself in a variety of ways, such as firing anvils, sending up sky rockets, Roman candles, etc. The Napoleon band was in attendance and discoursed sweet music, and "all went merry as a marriage bell." That tbe political contest is now s ettlcd, must be s relief to a'l good citizens, for such s pitch of excitement, and such blackmailing of reputations, cannot be otherwise than intensely demoralizing, and it is gratifying to think that it comes no ottenerthan it does. It is to be hoped that tbe new administration may be of such a character as to put a quietus upon that species of fanaticism which seems to have taken possession of many good peo ple, that a Democratic President will re duce our people to starvation, snd under mine our great national fabric, causing it to tall in one ruinous mass. For ourself we bave greater confidence in tbe perma nence of American institutions tban to i uppose that any man, crset cf men, can overthrow them, or very materially in jure them. . . The Prohibitionists of this place are just new filled with disgust over tbe late Re publican outrages in Kansas, Iowa and Oberlin, Ohio. We seem to have re at hed a pretty state of affairs when a peaceable, inoffensive man cannot express his prin ciples and becomes political candidate without being burned in eUgy and drag ged through the streets by a howling mob. Terrible indeed must be tbe demor alized condition cf that party that counte nances such disgraceful doings as those of the Oberlin Ku Klux Klan, in mobbing quiet, inoffensive men tor dating to sup- pott Ex-Gov.
