We made mention last week of Dr. Warner, a former resident of this city, being here with a fast horse.J It; has since been developed that the" Dr., or as he was better known as "The Missing Link," has evidently been doing some shady transactions. Tuesday he borrowed money from a gentleman of this city and gave a mortgage on the horse" for security. After getting the money Warner drove to Holgate and put the horse inT freight car that had already been hired and was awaiting him on the side track. The loaner of tho money caught onto the fact that the Dr. was trying to get the horse out of the state and sent Marshal Burns after him. Another Good Suggestion Re garding an Old Tim Topic, The Lake Shore Cut Off. That "Lake Shore cut off," so fre quently talked about, is a feasible protect, and, sooner or later, the road must be built. At this stage of the proceedings. the News ventures to sutrcest a scheme, which, if carried out, would help along the enterprise and greatly benellt all concerned. The proposi tion is briefly this: Let the '-cut off" start in at Bryan, Ohio, and run east through Napoleon and Bowling Green to Fremont. From this point the Lake Shore might operate or parallel the Lake Erie & Western to Sandusky. Such an arrangement would give both the Northern and the southern divisions of the Lake Shore a direct and continuous outlet over the proposed "out off," thereby greatly reducing its mileage between New York and Chicago. This bit of new road would also traverse some of the richest oil fields and one of the finest farming" sections of the state. In the short distance covered, the road would intercept four thriving county seats. The larger portion of the district referred to has no eastern and western outlet. Local business, and plenty of it, therefore, awaits the completion of the "Lake Shore cut oil." The absorption of the Lake Erid & Western between Fremont and San dusky ought to be an easy matter. The Sandusky end of the line has al ways been poor paying property, and the stockholders, doubtless, would be glad to have somebody take it oil their hands. With this end of the road under control of the Lake Shore, the latter could, if desired, make a still further cut in the length of its trunk line, by building a short link between Castalia and Huron.
