The enter prise is in the bunds of the "Warren Po lemic Club," a Literary Society of our village, and will undoubtedly prove a success if the prominent lectuiers jour ney west this winter a3 they hare hereto fore done. A handsome tubsci iption has been made cn the part of liberal-minded citizens, guaranteeing the society against loss. Tire course is expected to comprise eight lecture. We are informed that John B.Gough, Hon. Daniel S. Dickinson and Dr. J. S. Holland, have consented to come. Mr. Gough, about October 20th, Mr. Dickinson, a month later, and Dr. Holland some, time in December. Hon. Edward Everett, Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, Wendell Phillips. Esq., Bayard Taylor and other prominent gentlemen will be secured if possible. School Teachers. Person desiring to teach, in Trumbull County, this winter, will read advertise ment of examinations. The Board of Examiners deem a higher degree ol scholarship among teachers essential to the best interests of the public, and of teachers. The best teachers cannot af ford to teach for the wages offered the poorest can, and the public has the bene fit of their ignorance. Hence, teachers and patrons are alike interested in rais ing the standard of scholarship. Many of our best teachers hare left to educate the rebels. Some of these already fill the soldier's grave. Many pupils and friends of education in this country will long honor and cherish their memory, alike for their devotion to the education of youth, and their valor on the field ol battle. Thebest safe-guard against troub les, such as are now upon our country, is the education of the rising generation, not only in literature and science, but in the principles of an enlichientd palriotum and a tound morality. The present great rebel lion has demonstrated, as clearly as the sun in the unclouded heavens, that "edu cation it at political necessity." 1 1 haa proved to the fearful and doubting, that our sys tem 6f popular education can withstand, without being seriously impaired, the shock of one of the most wicked and un holy rebellions that ever disgraced the Annals of time. Whatever else we may be called upon to buffer, in this crisis of our national existence, the common choola muft continue in fall rigor. j is The Western Reserve Bank. A few years since, the banking office was enlarged, some alter ations m.ule in the arrangement of the other apartments, and a little external improvement made, otherwise the origin al structure remains the same. "Here its immediate vicinity, where those in whose hands its management was, were best known, "us g-xid as a Western Re serve Bank bill," has passed into a prov erb, and the citizens of the county would have been more startled by an eaitll quake than by the failure of the bunk, and would think one of those events as likely to occur, as the other." Should the Government order the men mustered out before the expiration of three years, the whole bounty will be paid, ami should any die in the service, the whole amount will be paid to their heirs. It is understood that the I2th will be commanded by Col.. R. W. Ratliff, so long Lt. Colonel of the 2d Ohio, than whom tliere is nu braver or truer soldier in the service. Col. Besides, remember that every recruit mikes one leas to be drafted, mid reader, you may be the one drawn, if a dralt is had in the State at all. in at To his ht late be be io The Trumbull County Fair. The Eighteenth Annual Fair of the Trumbull Agricultural .Society will occur Tuesday, W'ednesdav and Thursday of next week, and we would urge upon the farmers and mechanics or the county the duty which they owe to themselves and the public, that they bring to the Fair, specimens of their stock and products; and upon the ladies, ihut they also bring articles of their manufacture, and w hat ever they think will add to the interest beauty of the exhibition. There is scarcely a single farmer in this county, who Las not in his posession, some ani mals, or some vegetables, some specimen fruit or grain, which is excellent of its kind, the exhibition of which would give pleasure to the visitors, and increase their knowledge. It is a very poor ambition which looks only at the premium to be awarded. Agricultural Fairs are institu ted for the improvement of all, and the way to attain that end, is for each man add his quota to the articles exhibited, and to remember that he cannot benefit the public, without in turn receiving some good himself. Trumbull County butter and cheese are not excelled in the United States, and it the universal remark of drovers, that the stock of the county, horses, cattle, and sheep, is of the first class. There is ihen, reason why our Fairs should not be of the best kind, if those most interested, will only take the matter in hand. day lia, on City A Horse Thieves. That .there is a regularly organized gang of horse thieves operating in this vicinity; there is no longer any room for i doubt. Two horses have been stolen from this village within the last two weeks ; ope from Mr. B. X. Bobbins and one from Mr. Charles Wilson, and up to this time no trace of either has been dis covered. The horse we mentioned last week, as having been ttolen from Mr. Gould, of Genera, Ashtabula Co., was found by Mr. Post, of Bazetta, in the road near his dwelling, the next morning after the horse was taken from Genera. Mr. was awakened in the night by a man who stated he had lost his way, and en quired " where he was." Several horses have been lost from this county within the last two months, houses have been entered and robbed, and up to this time the thieves have escaped de tection. The citizens of this vicinity owe to themselves that prompt and ener getic measures be taken to ferret out the scoundrels, and see to it that the utmost penalty of the law is inflicted. Individ uals owe it to the community that each man caught prowling around their premi ses at night, be forced to give an account nimself. ro squeamish fears of "tak- sing life," should prevent a man from de ! fending Lis own property in the most n.t i Dromnt and enaotriRl wsv l'l B or a jk. ss: s Treasurer s Notice TN pu Jtho rat rsunneeof aw, I.'WILLIAM rates OI latM Ttr tlim vnitr nnp fhmisiin.i iirhl uu rmra uuiir, ana tii number ut cenii uii each j.
