It cot only possesses the charm of giving au accu and reliable account of a portion of Af rica with which we have but a limited ac quaintance, but it abounds in interesting in cidents. Whatever the book contains is re liable aud it !s written by a profound scholar who is both a brave and a brilliant gentle man, luo wonderful phenomena of the desert, mirages, simoons and sand pillars, exciting pursuit and slaughter of croco diles, hippopotamuses, elephants, boa con strictors and ferocious beasts, the varied ex periences of the expedition in a wonderful ebmute, among a singular people, who yet as we read of them ia the Bible, the pe culiarities of the country, its be auties and its drawbacks, and the ihriiling adventures and hairbreadth escapes of the expedition, are all with a vivid freshness that makes this book a delightful acquisition for the conva lescent, the student, the man of leisure, or man ot business seeking pleasant relaxa tion. It is niatrnificenlly gotten up, too. abounds in spirited illustrations, well execu ted, is printed on fine paper, in large, clear type, is handsomely and substantially bound. it is produced in tnis country in a man tully worthy of the sensation it created the attention it received upon its first publication in London. Fine and accurate ure, also, an invaluable addition to the k, whic h is fit to be received into any li brary in the United Slates. The best crite of its popularity here is that we know many of our friends who have the work u.ey arc au mum pieaseu wua u. The Atlantic Monthly : Ticknor &. elds, Boston.
