She has been seriously ill and the shock
of her daughter' tragic death Is llkoly to
prove fatal.

A MAN BAERLY ESCAPES WITH HIS LIFE
NEAR NAVARRE,
Tho Country Burned for some Distance
Around a Big Barn, Which Was .En
tirely Consumed .Particulars of tho Big
Blase.
On the 23d of August, about 11 o'clock,
tho large barn on tbe farm or Micnaai
Wagner, two miles east or navarro, anu
about twenty rods north of tbe C. C. & S,
R. II. ou tbo farm formerly ownod by
Daniel Smith and slstor, was burned. The
barn was a large batik barn and well
finished. It was built about ntno years
ago, and contained tho wheat off of 62
acres of land, unthrasbed J 15 tons of hay ;
corn plows) shovel plows; self binder;
bay anil several otner tuiugs, aiso iour
head of horses,
William Battery lives on the farm and
was working in tbo woods close by. The
first ho saw was groat clouds ot smoku.

horses out. xnero wero two uoora to
open and as ho oponed tho upper ono,tbo
sill abovo tho door fell between biin and
the horses. Mri Battery is a victim of
heart trouble and tho snioko and excite,
ment was too much for blm and ho foil to
the ground. Bo doesn't know how long
bo lay, but when be was able to stand on
his f eot everything was ablase around blru
and ho barely etcaped with his
llfo. The origin of the Are Is not known
as there was no building close to the barn

Mr. Wagner was in Canton tho day ot the

and a wind pump. It was with hard work
that tho house was saved. Mr. Christ
Grabor, wbo lives qulto a distanco away,
but in tho direction of tbe high wind
which prevailed, baiely saved his build
ings by plowing around them. Tho fences
and fields are burnvd over In every direc
tion. Everything was very dry aud tbo
nmu flames consumed everything in a
very abort time. At G o'clock there was
nothing loft but the smoking ashes whero
the barn stood a few hours before.

could not sleop. I was in misery and

On inquiry Tho Journal reporter found
that these pills aro now on salo at the
various wholcsalo drug houses of Minne
apolis and St. Paul and are meeting with
a good sale, but not as fast as they will
sell as soon as their merit is fully known.

Jacob Hauo was born near Canton, Janu
ary 10. 1814. Bis Fnrents, Christian und
Mary Banc, wero natives of Pennsylvania
und coming to Stark county about 1811,
sottled near Canton. In 1832, Jacob enme
to Canton and was apprenticed to a tan
ner. Uo complotod bis trade and rose
rnpldly from ono position of trust to au
otbor, and finally in 1810 becamo owner
of a tannery. Uo contlnuvd the rcnuu
facture of leather until 18S9 when he em
gaged In the It atbor tr&do exclusively for
ten years, retiring from business in 18G9.
Mr. Uaue was married, in 1840, to Miia
Hannah Beyrer, ot Pennsylvania. Four

elf Friday in Meyer's lake. At 0 o'clock
Monday morning Joe Rigler noticed
something in tbe lako north of the middle
of tho body of water, and thought It might
bo the body of the girl. He at once Jumped
Into a boat and rowed out to whero the
obj.-ot was floating. Uo found tbat his
suspicions were correct and no Immedi
ately oalled to It a C. Mandorbaugb, who
was fishing some distanco away. Tho
two men got tho body Into the boat and
rowed to shore. Coroner Couklln was at
onco notified and went out and viewed
tho remains. John Greber and Charles
Oertel arrived at 7 o'clock, having loft
homo before belug nwaro that the body
had been found. The body was badly
bloated and looked horrible
