4 r v Kesp it before the People, that tho Fed eral papers of Cnd'a havo never j et told their reader who Roorback is, after quoting from his book of travels. Jackson's last Vote It is cause of sincere gratification with every democrat, that the life of Gen. Jackson has been spared to witness the triumphant restoration of his system of measures, in the election of his friend James K. Polk. The old Hero was able to attend the polls and cast his vote for Polk and Dallas it was most probably the last time he will exercise that invaluable right of freemen. He hd great anxiety to live and be able to give that vote. He was spared to enjoy the high I ; pleasure, and we rejoice that he has lived, to see that the American people are still true to their own interests. What a noble spectacle does the old Hero now present? Let death now come when he chooses. Andrew Jackson is ready to meet him he has filled the measure of his coun try's glory, be has made his peace with his God, and now waits patiently and submissively the great summons which shall call him hence. Nashville Union. Later from MexicoBattle between the Indians and Mexicans. We are Indebted to the New Orleans Picayune of the 10 th instant, for the annexed intelligence of Tampico, received by a vessel which sailed on the 26th ultimo. The most important intelligence relates to a severe contest between the Mexicans and'Camanche and Tahuacanos Indians. The latter would appear to have made an incursion among the Mexicans, and carried off a large num ber ot women and children. We have not the particulars of this fight, unfortunately, but it must Jiave been very severe, as we have a list of the names of forty-six Mexicans killed upon the . ilie Id, and twenty-two wounded. It occurred some time prior to the 9th of October, near the Pasco le los Moros, in the district or precinct of Key nosa. Contemporary with this, at the ranebo of Los Moros, 22 were shot or burned m the house Attached to tho rancho, and many women and -children carried off captives. On the 1 1 th of Oc tober another engagement took place. There . were, according to Mexican accounts, upwards V of 400 Indians engaged in this. I he aluur lasted over two hours, a Jively fire being kept up all the while. The Indians then abandoned the field, giving up fifty-five Mexicans, women and chil dren, whom they had previously carried on cap tives, a quantity of firearms, and some horses which they had stolen. Twenty of the Indians were left dead upon the field, while many more were believed to hava been carried oil in the flight, according to Indian usage, both dead and wounded. On the side of the Mexicans, nine were killed and thirty-four wcunded. Immedi ately steps were taken by the sub-Perfect of Rev- nosa, to raise a sufficient force to cut off the re treat of the savages, who retired by the way of the North. The Duty of Democrats, Ohio does not occupy a proper position. She : should be numbered among tho ninny States who have cast their vote for the republican can dictate. The reins of government have returned to our grasp. Old and tried republican Stales have again wheeled into line, and wc face our foes with our accustomed front. We have polled a larger democratic vote than we have ever before done in Ohio; but we have . been defeated, notwithstanding. The whigs can never again come up under their present organ ization. It is composed of too many factions, fjl and must break. - The democracy of Ohio have a straight for ward course. Let them remain true to their principles; let them preserve their organization, and the great State of Ohio will take her stand among the democratic States of the Union. STAND FIRM, FRIENDS OF POLK AND DALLAS. A feature is before us which, if well improved, will give us a succession of democratic presidents, and triumph in many a battle. Our legislature is in whig hands. It will not long remain so, we predict. Hardin Domocrat 05" Federalism in the time of old John Ad ams, was content with extending the time for naturalization ou to fouiteen years. Federalism in those days, will be satisfied with nothing less than extending it to twenty-one years. . Tha older it grows the niore intolerant it be comes. 'Buffalo Courier. We understand tho Hon. Wm. C. Rives said some time since, if James K. Polk was elected President he should go to Canada. We would advise him to have his clothes washed and slope; for we doubt not the State of Virginia can very well dispense with his services; and she has spo y" ken to him in a ijoice of thunder that she docs not wish to be " embarrassed with his opinions.
