The subject that absorbs Eepublican attention in New York is the election of delegates to the Chicago Convention. A rapid transit through half a dozen counties will convince an observer that Warner Miller and Alonzo B. Cornell have formed an alliance, and that the supporters of Arthur are trying to off set this by getting as much aid as pos sible from the Edmunds men. The shrewd Vermonter has more strength in Central Xew York than has generally been supposed. He draws from the Stalwarts and the moderate Half Breeds. He may capture some of the more pronounced Half Breeds. In any emergency that may arise at Chica go, the Edmunds contingent from Xew York will not be likely to go to Blaine. They are not the kind of material from which he is wont to draft his troops. In the days gone by they generally obeyed the trumpet call of Conkling, though some yielded to the milder sway of Morgan. The Edmunds men hold the balance between the two factions in this State. Favoring Arthur rather than Blaine, they may help the former as a delegate here or there, and may pick up some for their own nse. The belief in the central counties is that Blaine will do well if he captures 25 trusty delegates out of the 72. The rest will be nominally for Arthur, excepting the small sprink ling for Edmunds. "When the break comes at Chicago, whether the 72 will move in a body or scatter wideljoone can foretell. m I have bought the stock of BOOTS AND SHOES at Kenyon's and will continue to sell at greatly reduced prices until the present stock is closed out. Page, one of the Rhode Island delegates to the Dem ocratic National Convention, who were chosen last week. "Our delegation," says Mr. Page, "is solid for the good old ticket of Tilden and Hendricks, first and last, now and forever. "We don't want any one else, and until Mr. Tilden an nounces in the convention that he will not run, we are firm for him. If Mr. Tilden will not run we will center on Mr. Flower, of Xew. York, but as yet we have agreed to no tail to that kite. What we want is Tilden, and we want him badly." The Rhode Island delega tion is a small one, but we like its spirit. It gives voice to a considerable body of Democratic opinion. "If not Tilden, then give us Flower," appears to be a popular Democratic sentiment now-a-days. r i Clean Gloves. Index, and the Re flector believes that it is a worthy notice of a worthy man and that it will be read with interest by its numerous readers who are ever willing and ready to extend the hand of friendship and welcome to such excellent people : ""We, the physicians of Slater, Mo., recognize that in the withdrawal of Dr. T. J. Ross from ourmidst, ourfraterni ty has lost one of its most worthy mem bers and the community a most valua ble citizen. We have for a number of years been intimately associated with Dr. Ross, and the knowledge thus ac quired enables us to testify of those qualities by which he adorned his pro fession and the society from which he has lately been called. "We commend the Doctor to the com munity with whom he has cast his lot, as a physician of excellent ability, a man of strict integrity and in every way worthy of their esteem and patronage." F. A. Howard, D. "W. Reid, A. II. Snoddy, X. M. Edwards, E. "W. Smith, Pres. Saline Co. Med. Society. L. S. Mead, Associate in Med. College. The Farmers' Home, on the south side, is just what its name implies. There the farmers do congregate, and landlord Westrup has all he can do to take care of his guests. But he takes care of them, and does it in good shape, too. The tables are well provided and well served, and in a short time Mr. "Westrup will begin a renovation of the house. Xew carpets, new furniture and a liberal application of kalsomine will change the Farmers' Home into a most comfortable, home-like place. The accommodating "mine host?' is already so crowded with business that we don't know whether he wants us to invite the farmers to call and see him, but if they want to be well cared for they will go without waiting for an invitation. By the fourth of July the T., S. & "W. R. R. will be extended some distance out into Dickinson county, and thi3 thought suggests itself: "Would it not be a good idea for the citizens of Coun cil Grove to prepare for that day a grand celebration, to be held on the new fair grounds, and invite the people of Dickinson county, as well as all of those of Morris county, to come in and share with us the festivities of that il lustrious day? The ten new flat cars and the officers' car could be so arranged as to accommodate all who might wish to come, and we doubt not that the managers of the road would gladly fur nish the train at a low compensation for the occasion.
