"It seems that this article would have outside capital believe that the promise of a bigger Enterprise had gone glimmering and that the peo ple of Enterprise would rather, see big weed patches on the main street than fine substatlal business houses. But Mr. Dolley evidently had his wires crossed In regard to Enterprise for no new bank has as yet been organized and in fact none of the things there stated have actually taken place in Enterprise so far as we have been able to learn and we have quizzed a number of people in regard to It. But the fact is that a new bank is rapidly nearlng the stage of or ganization; a fine bank building is being erected on the west side of Main street that will be an orna ment to the town and put a stop to the sneers of traveling men in so far as one weed patch is concerned and we understand the man who Is to take active charge of it will soon be here with his family." At a meeting of national and state bankers in Kan sas City yesterday afternoon a plan was formulated for the insuring of bank depositors against loss through failure of participating banks. The main purpose of the undertaking is to enable nationals, which are exclud ed from the operations of the state bank guaranty law, to enjoy the ben. efits of deposit Insurance. However, the new organization will admit state banks to membership should any of them prefer this plan to the system provided in the state law. Twenty-four directors were chosen for the association, all of them bank- erf In Kansas. They will apply for a charter today. Among the directors chosen are the following well known bankers; Scott Hopkins of Topeka, P. W. Ooebel of Kansas City, Kan., C. Q. Chandler of Wichita, Mr. Berks of Wellington, Charles Lobdell of Lamed, J. R. Burrow of Topeka, E, E. Ames of Topeka, D. B. Harrison of Downs and John Llndsburg. Since the meeting of the national banks at Topeka, March 26, the com mittee of twenty-five then appointed, consisting of two national and one state hanker from each congressional district, have been busy formulating a plan for closer relationship and co operation between the banks of the state and for deposit Insurance along scientific lines. The plan evolved was presented by a special committee of bankers to the Comptroller of the Currency, who found no legal ob jectlon to It. ' The plan contemplates the forma' tion of a surety company under, the laws of the state of Kansas with a capital of $500,000, the stock of which shall be subscribed by the stockholders of the banks themselves. the purposes of which have been submitted to and approved by the state authorities. The company will have authority to write bonds for the guarantee of all depositors, county and other municipal depository bonds, and to assist banks which may be temporarily embarrassed, the cen. tral Idea being to support each other and prevent failures. State as well as national banks may participate. State Bank Commissioner J. N. Dolley has announced that there will be no discrimination in his department against state banks which may adopt this plan, and the purpose of all part ies will be the instructors. The fac ulty is a strong one and the Institute will certainly be a success. The course of study tor 1909 is now at the county superintendent's office and may be secured at any time by parties desiring copies.
