While playing the other evening little Harry Tolbert received a se vere bump on the head which caused a slight concussion of the brain. It Is hoped that nothing serious will result. Saturday afternoon, Nellie Burke had the misfortune to run a needle into the palm of her hand. The needle snapped In two pieces and one still remains In her hand. The wound is very painful and we hope may soon be better. Mr. and Mrs. George Craley spent Sunday at John Taylor's. The program given In the afternoon was given by rooms one and two, the upper room giving a play at night In the hall. Mr. Byers was knocked down and run over by his team running off. Fortunately he escaped with bruises only. Sam Bullington was kicked and quite seriously hurt Saturday even ing by a horse kicking him in the face. Dr. Books of Stockton had a son born recently. Born, May 1, to Mr. and Mrs, Jacobs of Abilene a daughter. Mrs. Jacobs was Miss Maggie Stewart of this vicinity before she was married, Mr. and Mrs. E. Price are proud parents of a ten pound boy. Several in this vicinity took their cattle to pasture. Saturday. Abe Brown visited his brother, James, a few days last week. Mr. and MrB. E. G. Probasco and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mustard visited in Industry Sunday. Little Wayne Strong has been suf fering with a gathering In his head but is some better at this writing. The Dunkards will hold their Love Feast at the church in Buckeye, May 8th and 9th. Everybody Invited to come. Word received from Mrs. Jennie Bryson, state they are well and hav ing a fine time. A certain man in North Dickin son took his telephone out and the same evening he thought he would call up his neighbor and when he went to. use the phone It was gone. Misses Effie Kreider and Grace Grove visited Sunday with the Misses Mlnter. A couple of young ladies went fish ing the other day, while enjoying the search for fish, they were sud denly Interrupted by the owner of the place who commanded them to leave the place at once or they would resort to harsh means, of course they left without fish. J. L. Stecenberg and wife were at different places in Illinois recently to visit relatives. Mrs. Abe Westrup and Miss Louisa Ahrens are at present In Endora, Kansas, to visit Mrs. Rev. Henry Ahrens, who is very sick at this writ ing. Miss Emma Olhoff spent a few days with her brother and family in Herlngton. Wm. J. Duiker and Henry Westrup were elected as delegates to attend the State Sunday School Convention which Is held In Topeka this week, Mr. Sam W. Meuzenmayer and fam ily will also , attend and visit rela tives near Eudora. Mrs. J. Gugler and daughter Liz zie, and Karl Even are visiting near Mt. Ridge, Kansas. Mr. Evans ex pects to find employment in Mc- Pherson county. Mr. Ploager, Jr., from Kinsley, Kansas, is here on a visit. Mrs. .Bertha Asllng was at Alta Vista recently to visit her daugh ter and family. Mrs. Minnie Schwendener from Abilene, was in our town last week on business. Rev. John Kracher will take a trip to Kansas City this week and also to Topeka to attend the State Sunday School convention. Next Sunday he will conduct quarterly meeting at Alta Vista. Mrs. Herman Mltsch and Mrs. S. W. Meuenzenmayer attend the Wo man's Missionary convention at Bush- ton. Mrs. Muenzenmayer gave a fine talk on the proceedings of the con vention at the German M. E. churoh last Sunday evening and Mr. Louis Westrup on the Sunday School convention held at Solomon. J. L. Stranbery spent part of Mon day and Tuesday of last week in Born, to Mr. and Mrs. B. F. John ston, May 1st, a boy. Word was received here of -the wrth of a little daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Burns of Indiana, Jar. Word was received here of the marriage of Ernest Colley to Miss El sie Kettleson of Baggs, Wyo. Mr. Colley was at one time In business here and also In Abilene but lives at Baggs. Mrs. Ed. Armold Is visiting her daughter, Miss Hazel, who Is attend ing Washburn college In Topeka. Dr. H. McShea and son John re turned Tuesday after a pleasant trio inrougn Texas. C. W. Parker of Abilene was a Chapman caller on Sunday. Dowllng Bros, received another car of Reo automobiles on Saturday. The boys are doing a rushing busi ness nowadays. Ersel Armold went to Topeka Wed nesday to visit his sister. The seniors went to Junction City Thursday to have their graduating pictures taken. They were chaper oned by Miss Stackhouse. J. F. Murphy and family of Abi lene were calling on old friends on Sunday. Chas. Dobbins of Clay Center was transacting business here on Wed nesday. Jas. Fridley Is on the sick- list. The little eighteen months old son of Mr. and Mrs. August Scheufele died at their home Monday morning of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Wlddows, formerly of this county but for the past six years have Jteen In missionary work in the Philippine Islands, are visit ing relatives and friends In this country. They go for a visit to Ohio and will return later and con tinue a visit and will return to the Islands after a year's furlough and rest. Geo. Crary, formerly of Dickinson, but later years In mission work on the Pacific coast states Is on his way here for a visit with relatives. Miss Vesta Sexton is home from Emporia. Harry Tolbert was seriously hurt at the party at Mr. Lannlng's. Miss Blanch Hobble completed an eight month's term of school at Highland last Friday. The supply of cattle on the yards the past two days has been very moderate and there has been a strong demand for all kinds of good fat cattle and prices have ruled strong to 10c higher each day. Top sales today on best beef and export steers $6.80.. Bulk of sales ranging from $6.10 to $6.70. All kinds of good butcher stuff Is In strong demand at higher prices. Stockers and feeders are scarce and are selling 16 to 20c higher than last week. The supply of hogs at the western markets this week has been light and prices are 5c higher each day. Top sales here today $7,36. 'The quality of hogs coming now Is pretty good, but there are not so many heavy hogs coming this week as last Our predictions for the future Is for a higher market on both cattle and hogs. Another Birthday Surprise. Monday evening, the many friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lannlng, gave them a pleasant sur' prise. It was the occasion of Mrs. Lannlng's birthday. About seventy- five were present and all bad an en joyable time. Cake and fruit punch were served.
