Primaries were held in each of the four townships, and delegates were elected to the county convention to bo held in the upper west room of the south side school house. Kinsley, Kas., August 12, 1S9S, at 3 p. m. Accordingly when the time arrived for the convention, Mr. Gonder called the meeting to order. MissHinshaw was chosen temporary chairman and Mr. Clark temporary secretary. Four committees were then chosen, commit tees on Order of Business, Creden tials, Resolutions, and Permanent Organization. The convention then took a recess while the committees transacted their business. Conven tion was then called to order, and, while waiting for the couiu'iituies; Mr. Gonder called for speeches from sev eral persons. They had little to say consequently Mr. Gonder was called for. He ciapped his hands, jumped up and told the audience that he know how to bring himself before the pub lic. Then with wild flourishes he told of circumnavigating the globe with Magellan, of delivering orations in the Philippines, Cuba and the West Indies. With this he rolled his eyes, clenched his fists and shook them at the audience saving that he would leave the floor to the dintinguir-Ued orator Mr. Clark, who glad of an opportunity) immediately rose to bis leet and in stentorian tones laa ded himself to the skies. He ei:um eratcd the various 'offices he had h:.id . and expected to hold, us chnt of roard overseer, representative, coroner, arfl- president of the United States, but he announced that the one position he most aspired to fill was that of sheriff. Mr. Gonder moved that doses of sooth ing syrup be administered to Mr. Clark at regular intervals until he- should be calmed d jwn Committee on permanent organiza tion reported as follows: We, the committee on permanent organization recommend Mr. Hilleary for chair man and Miss Blanchard for secrii ry of the meeting of the Normal Par ty in this county convention. ' That "silver sentiment is dead" is an assertion on the part of adminis trative organs in which the wish is father to the thought, there can be no doubt. But silver sentiment " is not dead. Indeed, it was never more truly alive all over the world than at present. In Japan the silver sentiment has grown to such an extent that the proop?et of overthrowing the geld standard is very good. In India tle evils of monometal lism have proved of such au evident and si-riou's nature than even the men who labored to demonetize silver in the lirsfc place are now urging its remonetizatiou. la the United States silver 9enli - meat, so far from being dead, is very much aliv.. So full of vigor is it that the issuing of gold bonds was not even suggested in congress, and $-100,000,000 worth of coin. bonds were voted for by all the gold monometal lism of both houses. Silver was also directly authorized by the act authorizing the coinage of all the silver in the treasury into dollars and those dollars will heip to pay the expenses of the war just as effectually aft an equal r. umber of gold dollars. Only 3-0.,000,000 worth of coin bonds were issued, lint the peopk- and the banks and the syndicates have rushed to subscribe, until more than SGO0,0OC, W0 have been demanded. Oh, no, silver sentiment is not dead but on the contrary, was never more .-live than at present. Kansas Com- tnoner.
