The war is teaching us thrift and economy in many ways; and we shall have much more to learn along those lines before if is over. The extrava gance of the people of the United States has become' - notorious. We waste in thousands of ways, one of which is in the destruction of paper. We might learn from Canada how to save paper. The school children ' of Canada have been taught to save old newspapers and every scrap of paper that comes mto their homes. In Win nipeg the children of one district saved and turned in to the Red Cross Society'5 and one-haf tons of paper in one day. Through the use of col lecting boxes in Ottawa the Daugh ters of the Empire are getting thirty l-five tons a month. All of this paper is used again. It goes back to the paper mills, is sorted, and is used in making building papers, box board, roofing felts and past boards thus re lieving the shortage of raw materials and helping keep down the prices. The campaign for saving paper in Canada is managed by the Dominion Conservation Commission, which sends out circulars, puts up posters, and advertises m the newspapers, There has been seme agitation along this line in this country, but the peo ple here have not taien the situation seriously, as in oar, sea. &r.
