Sawdust Sand Ban.
Tm trouble U at Minneapolis, Slinne
iiota. There are a large number of saw
mills there producing an immense quan
tity of lumber annually. For conven
ience tbcic mills allow the sawdust and
edgings and other thins to fall into
the river. The engineers report that
this stuff docs a van amount of damage
to the nrer, neutralizing work that has
been done at great etpensa, and con
stantly forming new obstructions where
none existed "before. They say that this
saw dust, when thoroughly wtt, forms a
mucous thit gluu the sand together in
lumps, which, suttllng in tho rher,
causes bars. They attribute to this
cause the formation of hundreds of con
stantly changing, fatal obstructions of
this rharacter, and are unanimous in do-1
manding an abatement of this nuisance.
The lumbermen are opposed to any leg
islation on the Mibjict, as it ould en
tail upon them the necessity of carting
away or burning the dust and edgings,
which are now easily disposed of by
dumping into the water. Jlr. Dunncll,
of Minnesota, intends til push the bill to
abate the nuisance upon the rcasscm
.bling of Congrcs.

he suffered for twche months, losing 100
pounds of flesh.
