New Mexico is threatened with something worse than the refusal to admit the territory as state, even worse than the refusal to admit Pyra mid as a county, namely, a visit of in vestigation from Senator Hcverldge and bis committee on territories. The "enator visited the territory once be fore, and sought everything unclean he could find, doing the muckraking act us It never was done before, and utterly refusing to look for anything good. The party would pass through modern American towns where there are line buildings and much business done, with their car door locked, and would refuse to receive delegations from such towns, In order to hurry mi to some old dilapidated Indian town where the senator would exploit the worst he could find and report it as representative of New Mexico. Whatever happens, preserve us from another inspection by the senator from Indiana. Prof. A. K. Adams, of Socorro, has been made vice president of the Am erican Mining congress for New Mex ico In accordance with a plant-to lá crense the effectiveness of the orga nization by having local officers in each state and territory with sub sldiary organizations in each of the mining centers, where no active as sociations nre now in existence. Heretofore tile congress has been exclusively national in its scope, giving little attention to the local problems that vex the camps individually, bid Its growing strength in all the mining states with a large membership in each, has suggested a new arrange, merit under which each quite will huvi Its own local branch organization, 1 with local officers and committees in charge. The national organization will thus he brought into close con tact with the small operator as well as the large one, and the entire strength of the national body will, it necessary, be thrown behind any lo cal movement for relief from condi tions generally oppressive to the In dustry.
