Pittsburgh won the first game of a doubleheader and New York the second. Pitts burgh hit Muthewson opportunely and won the first, although New York team made a grand finish and came near gaining the victory. Wag ner was the star of the game, getting two singles and a double and scor ing two runs. In the second game the New York team hud two batting rallies, one at the start and the other at the fin ish. They hit the home team safely thirteen times for a total of twenty four bases. During a lull in their batting Pittsburgh titd the score by hitting Marquard vigorously in the seventh. In the next inning, however, the Giants had their second batting rally, getting two singles, a double and a triple off Warner. This gave them three runs and the game.
