Shooting Affair.—Oa Saturday last tbe qui
et of our usually peaceable! village was thrown
into utter commotion by one of those disgraceful
aflrays which have so often disturbed tbe good
order and outraged tbe moral6*nse of this com
munity, in thesime family.
It seems that some alight misunderstanding
occurred between Mr. Horace Morse and his son
Frauk, which resulted in a passage at arms with
pitchlorks acd clnhs, witauut serious injury to
either party. Both parties armed themseives
wish loaded shotguns, and after parleying and
threatening each other for a while, Morse took
deliberate aim and discharged his gun directly
in tbe face of bis son, being not more than fif
teen f*et lrom him at the time of firing. The shot
took effect in tbe face and hands ot tbe ton, bat
fortunately did not prove fatal.
We are not apprised that any steps have been
taken to bring the parties to deserved punish
ment, bat certainly so great au outrage upon
common bsmaoity and ogainst tbe peace of tbe
community and the digoity of tbe law should
not go unnoticed. If nothiog else is done, the
grand jury ehsuld investigate the matter, and
take action upon it.—Lockport TeUgrapk.
Hons* Fill Down - Fobtunate Escapi.—One
day last week an uncommon incident occurred
to and in the house of Mr. Hanben Dye, who
lives on "Shot Tower Hill," inthisoity. He
lives in » stone house recently built. In the
night be was awakened by beadng something
drop, as of a pebble, between tbe wainscoaticg
and the walk This was repeated several times,
which awakened bis suspicions that the wall was
falltug down. He immediately rose and re
moved tbe bed in which bis children were sleep
icg away some dis ancefrom the wall, and alto
that in which bis wife lay. He bad jost done
this, when tbe whole end of tbe boose fell in
with a crash, completely covering the spot
where bis children lay. Had be not providen
tially removed the bed as he did, they would
have been ctusbed to death. There most have
been a defect in the building of tbe wall, which
bficg loosened by the late moisture, fell down
as stated.— GaLna Advtrtistr.
