A largo number of ladies interested in ibo temperance cause assembled at Clark Street Methodist Church yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, for prayer and conference. Tho meet ing was called to order by Mrs. Jatkins, tvho offered the opening invocation. Ohmotion, Miss Mary Everts was substituted on the Committee of Finance for Mrs. Yon Ara dale. Mrs. Blackall reported tbat she bad circulated the pledges in her Sunday-school. A protracted discussion took plooo with refer ence to the propriety of engaging tbo sorricos of Dio Lewis, a number of the ladles being opposed to iti claiming that they wore able to run their own mootlnge., The Treasurer reported tbat tbo exchequer was exhausted, and that some moans should bo adopted to raise funds. Boports from other mootinga iri different parts of the city wore road, and, after the Committee on Pledges bad boon instructed to use every ex ertion to procure signatures, tbo ladies dis persed. Evanston, 111., April O.—A meotiug of tbo Evanston Temperance Alliance was bold In Union Hall yesterday .afternoon, with a small attendance.' Tbo mooting was opened with singing and prayer, as usual. :' Mrs. O. A. Willard tendered her resignation as one of tbo Committee to canvass tbo first dis trict of tbo village. It was accepted, aud Mrs. j. Nate was chosen to take her plaoo. The Committees of tbo various districts wore called on, bnt each reported tbat they bad done nothing, but intended to soon begin work. Mrs: A. L. Wbmo sent In her resignation as a member of tbo Executive Committee. This was accepted, and Mrs. Blakie was elected to fill tbo vacancy, thus created. Another member of tbo Executive Committee, Mrs. P; L. Tonhy, also sent in her resignation. This was also accepted, and Mrs. Kenney was elected asber successor. A letter from Isaac It. Hitt was next. read. This recommended the Alliance to appoint a committee of four ladies and vfour gentlemen, whoso duty.it should be to attend in the courts when any of tbo liquor-sellers of Gross Point were arrested, and boo that justice was done, as well as to. give the temperance cause their sup •port. ...
