The banka nre overloaded with fund*, and deposits are atendilv though nnl largely Increasing. If ntfiotners will remember the drift of this paragraph they will be able to form a correct opinion aa to whether their banker will be likely to listen to their request for lower figure* on their offerings. And bealdea the banks doing a general business have a fair demand for money, while what are generally known a* the packers' banks have an Immense Idle surplus, which, on abort lime, they nre glad to loan at very low fie* ore*. We quote the range wide at B®lo per font, about R being the more usual npper figure. Call and short time loans. 4&8 per cent, money, a* ttsanl, being abundant. We have before us an clalKirnte prospectus for a new company, who propone to ln*nro (he honesty of fiduciary agents. Thin Is a new thing In this country. though it In represented as quite common In Cnropc. The New York Tribune *nyi the oriental cnui|>anr, after which the Now York Com* puny In modeled, was e-tabllslmd in London In IBID, and It ha-bcen.eo successful (tint there are now eight companies in England. The Company assumes tho pro*ecutlon of offenders whom tt has unaranlccil. Its object, however, in not so much to pxy for louses ah to prevent llmm. 11a it has been ahnwn tn Rngland and Canada that persons who could not act uuar* anlve hood.* could not obtain pualtlona uf trust. In the h*l clause of the la«t sentence is right where tho Company will do wall to Keep a clone watch of the honesty of Its own officials. They may be briticd to make a guarantee where none tn deserved, or they may have "time worthless son-or cousin for whom they may secure a place, to (he exclusion of better nna more honest men. It lx not Mated what tbo capital of tho Company is to be. Those in Canada range from s.‘>oo,ooo to 8-, 000.000. liut a much larger rspilal will be needed, or a single Connecticut steal would swamp all tbo Canada compa nion st one fill swoop, Tbo Charter Oak thieves stole three or four millions of dollars, and yet thev all go unwhipt of justice. Tlow long will tno people of other States trust their money to Connecticut cupcrvUlun if she lets her stu pendous scoundrel* go scot free. This U a serious matter, and the sooner the people of the State "of steady hihlU” and her Immense fiduciary Institutions believe and act upon It the better. Tte produce markets yesterday were generally stronger and higher. a very fair business being transacted In nearly all the cereals, and a moder ate trade In provisions. The shipping demand was good, receipts quite fair, and the general situ ation quite satisfactory lo the majority of opera tors on ’Change. Deports from various points la the West denoted unsettled weather In some sec tions, and some unfavorable news relative to the crops was received, and this affected values favor ably. The stocks nf at! kinds of grain nre com paratively light, and for July delivery wheat, oats, rye, and barley are not especially plcntv. Dry goods were qniet. The demand at present rarely extends beyond inch quantities and such articles as are actually needed for the pursuance of current trade, and the daily distributions make only a moderate aggregate. Groceries wore in very fair request for the time of year, and prices of most lines again ruled Arm. Sugars are in abort supply, In active demand, and Arm. Coffees are receiving some attention, and are held at full prices. Jtlcc la scarce and strong. In the batter market there was a good degree of activity. Ship pers and the local trade bought freely at fully pre vious quotations. Cheese was firm and In good demand. Nothing especially new was apparent in the market for dried fruits, trade regaining in active, withpricesrnnnlngalongasbefore. There was a firm and fairly active Ash market at previous quotations. Trices of oils, paints, ami colors were unchanged. Leather was doll. Tobacco mot with a fair Inquiry at previous prices. The cargo lumber market was rather slow, though about one-third of the offerings were sold, two-inch wringing the same prices ns at the close of last week, while Inch was irregular. The yard trade continues to improve. Wool was in fair de mand, and steady. The rush Is over, and a fair, steady trade is now looked for, with fewvariatlons In prices for some time to come. The broom-corn market was dnti and unchanged. The demand for seeds was again fair, ns compared wild the offer ings, and a steady feeling existed, the offerings of spot or futures being rather light. The sales of hay wore again small, and for tho most part to the city buyers, who prefer old to new hay. Tho offerings of green fruits wero fair, and prices gen erally easy, in the absence of the usual crowd of buyers. Kegs were unchanged. Hall freights were quiet at Iflc to New York and Sic to Boston on grain, and 18&S8c to do on fourth-class. There is some talk of raising the rates lo 20c on corn to New York, to take effect Ang. 1. Through rate* to Liverpool were quoted at 40c per 100 B»* on grain and 40S<&44c per do on provisions. Rales to Cork for orders wore 4454 044Uic.
