Tho Senator’* remarks were eutbnal aitically applauded throughout, lie was ex tremely severe on tho Hrecnback party,—a party without a history, without a record, and ono that has never made one. It la consoling (o And that tho record of the Republican party la unanimously indorsed by Democratic Conventions nowadays. The old crimes of Republicanism were the en franchisement of slaves, extension of si'ifraee, the Civil Rights bill, and saving tho Union. Then we were reviled for this; bat nowadays ouc reads In every Democratic platform, a hearty indorsement of ait these, and their reso lutions hold these Republican institutions in tact. Now our crimes are alleged to be tho making of bird times and the stealing of a President. The Senator showed by actual llgurca that it cost less to live, and prices wero higher flow, than in 1800. in Democratic days. 11c also exhibited statistics of Imports and ex ports. showing that people misestimate our adversitv. He said the reason of ihctisrd timej was, tint, the enormous strain on physical cllort occasioned by the great Civil War.
