Pt Paul, May 24, 55 tf PATENT DIAMOND PRINTING PRESS. frillE attention of Printer-: is respectlully called to the _L examination of a New Hand Printing Press, recently patented by Dr. J. Lewis of Buffalo, New York. In pre seuting this Press to the Trade, we rely entirely upon its merits as a cheap and de.irable article, combining in a small space, all the requisites of a Printing Press. The fact that Printers have long desired a Press which eould be afforded at a low price, has been the main in ducement iu getting this up; aud although uot a Machine Press, yet work can be done well and expeditiously by a boy. The platen acts the same as a tympan on the or dinary hand press, being hung on hinges, and balanced with spiral springs, aud when down upon the form, the power is given by pressing down npou the lever. TDs rolling of the form under the platen being entirely dis pensed with. These Presses are set up ready for use, and cau be sent to any part ot of the country, with le-s expense than any other Press being le-s in size and weight. \Ye are now making three sizes, the smallest of which will make 500 impressions per hour, on cards and other small work for which it is designed. G 1 ARDEN .SEEDS, true to their marks, perfect iu their r production, and possessing vitality, are not only of the highest importance to the cultivator, but the dealer is also interested in having those of the first quality, as on this liis reputation aud success depend. Yet the ileal er and the seed grower are often blamed when not in (ault; for good seeds will often fail, from unfavorable cir cumstances. They may fail from the ground being too cold and wet, or from its being too hot and dry. Lying in a dry soil, exposed to a scorching sun, their vitality is soon destroyed. Many hard seeds, as carrot, parsnep etc., should have the soil rolled or pressed upon them otherwise they are liable to fail. Sometimes the tender plants start well, and, in th course of one or two days, and before the owner gets view of them, they are all eaten by insects, and the seeds mail is blamed. Again, insects devour them before they come out of the ground. Seeds may be buried too deep to vegetate; and shallow planting, on a diy soil, in hut weather, is very liable to failure. Powerful manures, such as lien or pigeon dung, guano, chemical manures, and those under powerful fermentation, may destroy seed with which they come in contact. Seeds often iail, from poverty in the soil. When there are so many causes of failure, it is not remarkable that failures occasionally take place; aud the cultivator should investigate these subjects thoroughly', and not blame the seedsman with out reflection and candor. In the selection of my seeds, great care is taken to have only those which can be relied upon, ami raised by expe rienced growers; and those kinds which cannot be raised in this country without much difficulty and uncertainty, are imported from the most reliable sources in Europe.
