Bt'tte,Dee. 16.^Chairman McQueeney^of the board of county commissioners^made a report to-day of his inspection of^the county roads during the last year, to^w hich he had devoted 20 days in all. He^saiil the roads are In fair condition, and^that a largo amount of work baa been^done in certain parts of this county,^w hich, ow ing to tho spring and summer^frcshct^, require continual repairing.^Some of the roads are always badly rut up^by ore teams and need constant attention^to keep them in good condition,and it will^always bo a great expense to tic: county.^The report recommends that Montana^street, to tbo cemetery, bo straightened in^accordance with a petition now on Hie,^and that the Homestako and Pipestone^roads be improved. It also suggested that^IBS road supervisor be authorized to em^^ploy more BBBB to work on the roads dur^^ing certain seasons of the year. Anotherharrowing case of poverty and^suffering was presented to the commis^^sioners to-day by Mrs. Shea, a nurse, w ho^has been taking care of a Mrs. Petty, who^was confined about a week ago, and who^was deserted by her husband some time^ago. Tho woman had a physician anil^nurse when her baby wus born, but when^they learned that she had no money or^friends they left her to the care of the^woman with w in 111 she was stopping. Mrs.^Shea volunteered to nurse thn woman^for a while and scut for tho^county doctor, who visited the woman^Tuesday. Yesterday he left the city on^business and lias not yet returned. Last^night Mrs. Petty bad a relapse and is said^to have suffered terribly. Kfforts were^Bisde to get some doctor to attend her, but^^icy all declined for various reasons, and^tho nurso could get no medicine^from the drug store because she^did not havo the money, and so^the sick woman was permitted^to suffer without medical attendance till^this evening when the nurse amtoaled to^the commissioners and secured an order^from 1 hem on u doctor and another 011 a^drug store.
