Amongthi thriving industries of this^city Is one of which little has ever haenj^said in print This Is no doubt due to^the fact that modi-sty is the prevailing^characteristic of the gentleman who.^from art^ unpretentious beginning, has^built up a manufacturing business In^Livingston thut Is deserving of more^than passing notice Reference Is made^to the cigar factory ot Charles tlarnler
1,n Second stmt Mr. Oarnlcr's resi^^dence here Is nearly cooxt nsive with^the existence af the city. Coming to^Livingston shortly after the advent is|^the Iron horse, he opened up a factory^and established an Industry that at^^ ha ajri-sent time gives employment t
fromsix to nine men. Wlthount anv^blowing or horns or sounding of trum^^pets. Mr. Qarnier has continued on In^the ere* tenor of his way until to-day-^he finds hlmaelf the proprietor of a^business that not only yield* rich re^^turns for himself, but also distributes^a considerable sum of money in v.nges^laid operators. The Industry con^^tributes In no inconsiderable degree to^the prosperity of the city. It creates a^pay roll. Montana money Is paid to^Montana worklngmen. who, in turn,^spend their wages In th city that fur^^nish** them employment Mr. Oarnlcr^does not base his only claim to public^patronage on the fact ihat h^ is con-^ductlnK a home*! nterprise. but can^boast ^^!' a product . 'in d lo cigars of^foreign manufactuie.
Thefactory consumes on an average^of 150 pounds of tobacco per week and^turns out dally I,Ml cigars. TheVe^cigars find a ready market In this city,^and old smoker* pronounce them an^excellent article. The factor's trade^extends east to Big Timber. Billings^and Red Lodge, and west as far as^Helena and Butte. The factory turns^out several brands of cigars.
