COMPLAINEDOF BEING ILL . | ^, ^ i ';^3taa Was a Methodist and Sometimes a^Victim of Despondency - A Native^of Not* Scotia and Is^80 Tears Old. 'M ! * GreatFalls, July f-What has be -^MM of Miss Agntu Sheni, a memlier Of^the First Methodist Episcopal church^of this-city^ on Monday last she dis^^appeared as completely as though the^earth had opened up and engulfed her.^Not a trace of her whereabouts can be^found, and several friends for two diiys^have been seart ttttig' ths'tlty high and^low In the hope of obtaining sum- i !ue^to her whereabouts, but up to the pres^^ent time have been unsuccessful. -Al^^though she has been la the habit of^calling at the postofflce regularly for^her mall during the last year, she has^not been there for a week and I we Ut^^ters await her at the general delivery^window. For a month past It is al^^leged that she has been at times sub^^ject to fits of melancholy and in some^ciuarttrs It is feared that evil has be^^fallen her. ' MissShort came to Great Falls about^n year ago from some point In Teton^county. She has often explained that^sb/! had a sister living at I'ondera. with^vi lioin she was not friendly. On arriv^^ing In Great Falls she waa short of^money and sought employment as a^domestic on the north side. Several^times she changed places and finally^entered the household of Rev. O. W.^Mlntier, pastor of the First Methodist^church. While there she became a^member of the church and was a regu^^lar attendant. About a month ago a^change was noticed In the girl. She^complained of being HI and every at^^tention waa given her. At times she Is^said to have exhibited a violent tem^^per and again would relapse Into mel^^ancholy. Ten days ago she Informed^the family that she was going to^leave. Noticingthat the girl was in ill^health. Rev. Mr. Mlntser notified the^Deaconess society and they Invited her^to their home. She complained of grow^^ing worse and was taken to a physician^by the Deaconess matron for treat^^ment. The day following she had her^trunk removed to the homo of Ke^\^Sprague Davis, pastor of the West Side^Methodist church, and told the sisters^that she waa going to remain there.^She went there a week ago last Thurs^^day and did not again visit her physic^^ian. On the Friday following she se^^cured employment with Miss Roach in^the Dunn block and worked there two^days, during which time the girls In^the shop noticed that she acted and^talker rather queerly. On Sunday, June^27. she called at the shot) and Informed^Miss Roach that she had secured a po^^sition as a domestic and would not be^around the shop any more, (in Monday^last she was seen on Central avenue,^carrying a package wrapped In a news^^paper. This was In the forenoon and^she has not been seen in town since.^When she left the west side she was^lightly clad. Her trunk and all of her^belongings are still at Rev. Davis' resi^^dence and as the days roll on the mys^^tery of her strange dlsapiiearani e^deepen. Anexamination of the postofflce rec^^ords shows that twice during the past^year she has had her mail forwarded to^Pondera, showing that she has visited^that place and probably her sister, al^^though she has not been there for some^months and Is not now. Twice during^the year she has received registered^letters. At the time she disappeared^she is not known to have had any con^^siderable sum of money, in fact It is^believed she was almost without means.^During her stay in this city, so far as^known, she has had no gentlemen^frienda, nor did she display any dispo^^sition for male society. MissShort Is a native of Nova Ccotla,^about 30 years of age, with dark com^^plexion, Is about five feet three or four^inches In height and weighs about 110^pounds. When last seen she waa^iressed In black, and her clothing was^neat, but not expensive. Intothe Boundary country, hbj com^^pany has not arrived at any definite^conclusion. He thinks that district^needs a railway and that there should^be no delay In Its construction, as the^development of the mines of that sec^^tion is greatly retarded by lack of prop^^er transportation facilities. QuestionedIn detail as to the future^policy of the C. P R. In regard to Nel^^son. Mr. Marpole said that this city^will henceforth receive every consider^^ation from the company. Nelson Is to^be the headquarters of the company's^system In Kootenai, and it will also he^a divisional point so fat as rhe'Nelson-^Lethbridge road Is concerned. Thecompany has not arranged for^the construction of any '^rjinch lines^In East Kootenai, and ^ \*^ll not do ao^until the main line is rxiiaTpJMed. Nomove will be made te build rail^^ways from si.,, an City lu Roseberry,^and from Nakusp to Arrowhead, for^some time to come. Hon.O. B. Bush, president of the Gil^^mer county (W. Va.i court, says that^he has had three cases of flux In his^family, during the oast summer, which^he cured In less than a week with^Chamberlain s Colic, cholera and Iiiar-^rhoea Remedy. Mr Bush also states,^lhat in some instances there sreeg^twenty hemorrhages u day. ^ Gleiivllle,^W. Va. Pathrinder. This remedy has^been used in nine epidemics of flux and^one of cholera, with perfect success. It^can always lie depended upon for bofrel^complaint, even In its most severe^forms. July 1.^Several errors in^tK'Ures have crept Into recently pub^^lished reports of the amount of county^money on deposit In the Merchants'^National bank of this city, when lhat^Institution olosed Its doors during the^memorable panic of 1893. With a view^of correcting these a prominent county^otlli lal. thoroughly familiar with the^entire transaction, called at the Stand^^ard office to-day and said: ^^^It will be remembered that the Mer^^chants' National bank failed in July of^1*93, ard at that time the then county^treasurer, J. F. McClelland, had ^.H.117^of public funds deposited therein. Four^dividends, aggregating WJM, have^since been paid the county by Receiver^Phelps, leaving a balance due last April^of 121.493. There were two official^bonds given by the late Treasurer Mc^^Clelland. The first was signed by C.^H. Austin. C. D. Ellott, Will Hanks. H.^P. Haifa, c. at Webster and !^r. A. F.^Longeway. On Sept. 8, 1893, nearly two^months after the bank closed, the coun^^ty commissioners asketl Treusurer Mc^^Clelland for a new bond, many of the^old bondsmen having; been crippled by^the panic. The first bond for his last^term as treasurer. In which the short^^age occurred, was filed Dee, 15. 1892, and^was for $300,000. The second bond, given^in accordance with the order of the^commissioners, wan'filed'Nov. 27. 1893,^or four months after the bank's sus^^pension. It was conditioned that the^sureties thereon were not liable for any^delinquencies of the treasurer that^might have occurred prior lo that bond^being Hied. These are simply the facts^In the case as show n by the official rec^^ords of the county. THECROWS' NEST PASS ROAD. WhatMM Nelson -Mlaer^ Has to gay^About Ha ^ onali notion. GreatFalls. July 4.^The Nelson. R.^C, Miner arriving here to-day contains^some Interesting information regarding^the building of the Crows^ Nest Pais^railroad. The newa, coming from a^high authority, gives it a stamp of sin-^.'erlty. The Miner says: Mr.R. Marpole. general superintend^^ent of the Pacific division of the C. P.^'It., arrived In Ihe city last evening ac^^companied by Mr. Harry Abbott of^Vancouver. Mr. Marpole waa delayed^In Revelstoke several days, awaiting^the arrival of prominent Montreal offi^^cials of the road who are delayed by the^washout In the Rocky mountains. Toa representative of the Miner. Mr.^Marpole said this morning that his com^^pany will extend the Columbia A Koo^^tenai railway from its present eastern^te-rmlnus to the eastern limits of the^city without delay. The contrac t for^the grading will be let and work will^e ommence in a few days. This is 'he^first move towards the construction ^f^the Crows' Nest Pass railway. The de^^tails connected with the building of the^line farther eastward will be finally^settled upon the arrival of General Man^^ager White, who Is expected here In a^few days. Noceintract has yet been let for the^construction of the railway for the bal^^ance of the distance to I^ethbridge. As^to the commencement of work at the^eastern end of the road. Mr. Marpole^declared that there would be as little^delay as possible. In reply to a ques^^tion he also said that the survey of th^line Is fully completed and everything^Is ready for the graders. Askedwhether the failure of the^federal government to subsidise the^Penticlon extension of the Columbia^A Western railway would cause the C.^P. R. to build west of the Columbia.^Mr. Marpole si.id that his company was^determined to reach the mines near^Rosslsnd. and would do so at the earli^^est opportunity. It is probable that the^Columbia A Western system will lie^used for that purpose. As te bunding McDevitMirinin. GreatFalls.
