F. Bow tar A Co's. Professor Ramage gave two exhibitions to the Butte people last week of that wonderful instrument, the Edison Speaking Plionograph. To attempt any scientific description of the instrument here is useless ; to be understood it should be seen. Much has been written about the instrument, and many of the feats claimed for it are disbelieved by a great many people. It is only necessary, however, to be convinced tliat it can reproduce auy sound, to try for oneself. There is no hum bug about it. The terminal point of the Utah Northern was moved to Camas creek last Wednesday, an advance of forty miles, all hard wagoning. In consequence of this shortening up of the wagon route freights from tbe terminus to Butte are reduced to a cent a pound. The track is being laid toward Montana at the rate of a mile a day. With a continuance of this energy we may expect the locomotive on this side the Pleasant Valley range long before winter, and then Butte freights will probably be as low as 76 cts. per 100 pounds.. Last week the graders were at work only three milis beyond the Pleasant Valley station. The larger portion of the town of Walker ville as well as that of Butte, is built upon the surface ground of mines—the Alice, Lex ington and others—and owners of buildings have been in some uueasiness about procur ing title to tbe ground on which they stand. But the minds of many were set at rest by the action of Mr. Walker when here a fefr days since, be having promised each and every person a good title to ground claimed and occupied ns town lot property ; to all those at least whose ground comes within the limits of the lode claims owned by the Walker Bros, This is a very generous action and will undoubtedly be folly appreciated.
