PEWS PURCHASE OF LAND INTERESTS LOCAL SHEEP MEN Local sheep men will be interested in the fact that I., \V. Penwowll of Helena, representing the ePnwell sheep companies of Montana has re cently acquired by purchase an island off the coast of California, four miles by 22 miles which has been used for many years for the running of sheop. This island seems an ideal place for that purpose as there are no wolves or other preying animals thereon, The grazing properties on this island are excellent, and there are sheltered rocks and a scattering growth of limber in which the sheep can run at will an( l find ample protection. Under present conditions the sheep there re otiire little or no care. The company Previously leasing the island from the! government spent $25,000 in artesian wells which afford abundant water! supply. The Island :.t present lias been stocked with 25,000 sheep will he replaced by a better grade of coarse wool sheep as soon as disposed of. for shearing and mutton purposes. The I.os Angeles papers have con-' tabled long ami detailed accounts of the purchase and it is interesting to note that one of the leading Montana sheen men lias acquired this desira hie island. -Q——- BIGLER_SMERUD.
