Although it ran int oserious competition from torrential rainfall, t h e community celebra tions went over in a big way, to the delight of the entire populace and hun dreds of visitors who turn ed out for the events. Everyone who had any thing to do with formul:t ing the plans and execut ing th-m deserve to be congratulated for doing a good job. Community par ticipation wes wholeheart ed and enthusiastic. Here was real democracy in action. This was a truly communify program, with every segment of the po pulace represented anu giving the carnival every thing it had. Such cooper-j ation and teamwork was unprecedented in the is lands. - | From the standpoint of attracting business to the island the carnival exceed-i ed expectations and indi cated the tremendous pos gibilities that lie ahead. Hotels, store s, restaurants, taxicabs and other busi nesses reaped substantial benefits. The community already has its sight set on the next earnival which will dwarf the first in every respect. To be held during the tourist season and well üblicized throughout the %nited States, this event should azttract a throng of visitors, and give the com munity andourguests something special to look lforward to each year. | Our Town And You tional budget consists of obligations incurred for de fense purposes.
