Islanders living on the mainland are militant and determined that the islands shall not suffer an ignomin ious death, and are ready to render full snpport to any movement you may instit ute, and futther, the Amer ican Virgin Islands Civic Association Inc., (headed by its President, Mr. Ash ley L. Totten, whose pat riotism is above question, and who hasover a period of yearsdevoted much time and energy to the welfare of his people) is ready t o cooperate in ‘doing what ever possible to put an end to the scourge now beset ting an entire people. To you, this particular segment of society, may I say that it is imperative that you well evaluate the gravity of the situation; Know thou that if Bill H. R. 7393 presented by dem ocrat, Lioyd M. Bentsen Jr. to the U.S. Congress, suc ceeds of passage, the death knel shzll have rung in the islands, and the people’s obituary becomes a start ling episode of degradation. There is no time to delay; as mer you mustprove you are men: The challengeishere and now, you cannot hide from yourselves. On the mainland M¢. Totten is engaged in a very active campaign to block the passage of Bill H.R 7393. and is being aided by very pow erful and influential sources. But for Totten’s indomitable interest & love for the islands, this Bill may have already be come law. However we cannot save the islands alone, without your understanding, coopera tion and courage, the attain ment of success is impossible, It is now fel¢ that by the very nuture of the faets herein stated there will be no difficulty in being assured of therequired intrest tc be taken towards the formulating o f plans necessary to the welfare of good government.
