THE HOME JOURNAL A Virgin Islands Publication Published Every Monday, Wednesda, an!c'ly Saturda, EARLE B. OTTLEY . . . . - Editor ,Bcentaoogy, wamonth, $6.00 a year $7.00 abroad Advertising Rates on Request Monday, October 27, 1952 One Week More Only one week remains before the 1952 council manic election comes to a close. The campaign is as furious as it is interesting and this time the voter has no excuse for staying aw ay from the polis. Unfortunately, t here has been too much person al abuse, and there has been little discussion of issues. Charges and count er charges imputing Wron%doinés in and out of pubiic office -have filled the air. Although: candi dates have said some pret ty rough things about each other the c¢ampaign has not had much vio lence. The nearest we have come to violence was a threatened stoning atHas-j sel Have and a powder pufl ‘exchange between two candidates. The mterfi&gf&e o:;lm munity in the e é&% ction has never been keener. T’ ou sands of persons are turn ing out regularly to hear lectures, and the issues of the campaign ure being taken into many homes by radio. There is every rea son to believe that t he turnout of voters this year will reach record propor tions. - Some candidates ha ve been spending large sums of money in a desperate effort to win the election. One in Earticular, has flooded the town with hundreds of photograhs & posters printed in the Uni ted States, is circulating thousands of buttons with his photograph andslogan, and is saglfi to be paying pers ns to canvas for votes! In various sections of the city. If the election is tol be decided by the amount of money being spent, this| candidate should win hands down. l Without venturing to make a n y predictions. it seems to be almost a unan imous view that at least two of the present members of the Council will be re tired from office on Nov ember 4, 13 Candidates Enter Race In Christiansted Thirteen candidates h ave filed petitions for the Nov 4 elections for the Christiansted Town and Country Districts.
