Harris Woman Elected In St. Croix; 3 Councilmen Lose Three members of the Mu nicipal Council of St. Croix were defeated in yesterday's election. They include Alva MacFarlane, Christian Chase and Aloysius cames, Re-elec ted were Herbert Heywood & -Erie Carroll of Christiansted town;Ernest Rohlsen,at large; Walter Hodge and Raymond Pedro of Frederiksted country. Mrs. Ann Abramsen, sister of Judge Alphonse Christian, be- el ThPmas,Yugin Islands,§ Wednesday, November 5. 1952 Brown, Harris Lose Reese, Gomez Win; Rhymer, Creque, Richards,Sprauve, Ottley Re-Elected Two. long and spectacular political careers were brought to an end this morning when Omar Brown, a member of the legislature for the past fourteen vears, and Oswald Harris, who was seeking his sixth, consecutive term were de feated in their bid for re election. Brown was defeated by Councilman Henry Crec}xue who shifted from the country district to run as member at large. Creque received 3 total of 1019 votesto become second member at large. Henry Richards, Brown’s run ning mate, was first with 1119. Brown received 970. or 49 less than Creque.The %reat lead piled by reque in St. John and in the country district was more than enough to make up for Brown’s good showing in the town. In the country. Creque %ut 286 votes, to 160 for rown and 138 for Richards. In St. John Creque gotß9 votes, Richards 75 and Brown ouly 27. But in town 'Brown received 783 votes to C;ggue’s 644. Richards got 906. _ Auguste Rimpel and James O’Bryan, the other] at-large candidates, got tatals of 636 and 230 votes, respectively. ~ Harris was badly out-J came the first woman to win ‘election to the legislature. She ‘was elected from Frederiksted town along with Axel Schade. Wilfred Benjamin and .J. W. Flick wereelected from Christiansted country. distanced in the town by Earle Ottley and Percival Reese. With 1672 votes cast in town. Harris drew only £sl, while Reese got 899 and Ottley a record breaking 1020, or one more than the total amount received by Cre- E:e). George Audain and nard Brewer got 325 and 236 votes, respectively. ~_lnthe country race, Weymouth Rhymer was re-elected and Joseph Go mez, his running mate, was also elected. Rhymer got 185 votes and Gomez 199. Other country candi dates included Francois de Lagarde who got 140. Ja 'cob Monsanto with 185 and Th{ra Hodge Will iams with 121. A total of 497 voted in the country. In St. John, J. Sprauve, who was unopposed got 140 votes. The voting was the hea viest in years, with 2169 voters agipearing at the rolls in St. Thomas. Bal oting was not completed until 5:30 this morning. Gov. Reese Eisenhower Is New U.S. President General Dwight David Eisenhower won the Pre sidency of the United States today, breaking up a 20-year Democratic con trol of the White House a landslide which extended into the Solid South. __About 2:30 this morning, Eisenhower's opponent, Governor Adlai Stevenson of Illinois, conceded de feat, after losing almost every important state and bowin%l also in Virgim’a and orida, traditional Democratic territory. Eiserhower’s piurality ex ceeded 4.000,000 votes and his sweep in the Electoral College was even greater. It appeared also that the Re publicans would regain Senate control by a small margin,and full control of the House of Representatives.
