The Cholera comes on either suddenly, or after a patient has for some time felt unwell and has suflered from debility, restlessness, heaviness of the head, giddi ness, oppression in the pit of the heart, dislihe to food, nausea, vomiting, and— almost always—diarrhea either with or without griping, and spasms in the limbs. The sic'c person must immediately go to bed and be covered well, and against the aiarrhea or grping w the stomach take 20 drops of Cawsphior drops, Hoflinaun’s drops, or Peppermint, every hour, to be repeated several times, and frequently take warm draughts, f. i. s2'=s, soup made of rice, oat meal or barley, common tea or tea made of chamomile, of the elder flower or of pep permint, with adimixture of a small quanti ty of wine or brandy. Perspiration beine always beneficial, and in order to promote 1t the more, the patient may take Minder drops, (Spiritus Mindere ri,) according to thc age, say from one * teaspoonfull to one tablespoonfull every second hour. Should the warm draughts be obnoxi ous to the patient, or increase the vomiting, then it may be very beneficial to give cold water, especiaily iced, say a glass every quart or halt’ hour, mized with Minder spirits or camphor-drops. In case the diarrhea continues, then to a grown person may be given 10 to 20 drops of laudanum together v oo conoplor drops, and for the griping of the stomach rubbing with thick camphor-oil alone or mixed with about one sixth part of laudanum. : The violent symptoms, that either come on suddenly or eusue after those milder ounes stated above, are frequent and pain less diarrhea, vomiting, great thirst, heat inwardly ; the breath as well as the tongue and the skiu, especially on the hands and feet ice-cold, the skin shrunken, pale or bluisl, often with cold sweat, the eyes sunken with blue rings around them, the voice hoarse, the pulse weas, scarcely to be felt, stoppage of urine ; severe cramps come on at times in the pit of the abdomen, in the arms and the legs, dulluess and indifference. though withe out loss of the senses, and often strength enough to walk even shortly before death. The evacuations from vomiting and diarrhea may at the commencement be bilious, but afterwards covsist of a limpid or mucous humour somewhat like thin oat meal soup or rice water. & In these cases must be applied, besides the means already mentioned, friction with the ‘hands, with flesh brushes or woollen cloth’ _déppe'd into brandy mixed with salt aid black pepper” (a spoonfull of éqéfi)_,“:qt dipped in spirits of camphor or oil of tur pentine ;—where the skin is most cold a (NrY. 2.
