W.1 are authorized to annonnco Joseph Rosier, of Teumilo district, us n enudi date for County Superintendent of Free Schools. The World's Pair was closcd on last Sunday to the general public but all the "mighty folks" who held free tickets got in and had a great day. It is said there were thousands of the latter. The common people, however, could not gain an entrance. Farmers are complaining about the extrn mely low price of wool. There are now some buy ers in the fiold who are willing to pay 20 cents and no more. This is too low but in view of the fact that our Democratic friends have promised us "free wool" we can not look for better things. Brad street's report for the week end ing, is as follows : "The situation in the wool market has shown very little change. The new wool continues to come forward, but dealers are not going after it as in previous years. The future is too uncer tain for either dealers or manu facturers to take hold freely. Buying is all of small lots, and the mills are being run very care fully. The goods market is in good shape as far as stocks are concerned, but at present the de mand is light, owing to the back ward season. With the excep tion of pulled wool, supplies are light, but the heaviest part of the receipts of tLese wools is now .over. The London sales have closed. It is estimated that about vB.OOO bales were taken for this country, a small amount compar ed with that bought at the same sales last year. Buying on the part of continental houses was very active to the close. It was their domand which advanced prices and held them firm. There is very little doing in carpet wools. The outlook seems to be toward low prices. Growers will have to consign more wool than heretofore, as dealers will not take chances at the old prices." Coimisteney. News?(to the public.) "There should be no regard paid to a man's religious or political pro clivities in a school election. Vol. J for Rosier." Editor News?(to voter.) "Ill you, a Democrat vote for Clarkl for Superintendent of schools yoJ will be considered a traitor ufl your party." * I Mr. Editor.?It is sometimel thought by those who are not id formed in regarded to our publl schools that the county superif tendent is a mere figure-hea and in no way directly conned* with teachers and teaching, asi| from being the President of Examining Board. Was a greal and a more fatal mistake ovf made? The county superint ent, if the proper kind of maj the adviser, guide and insp tion of every teacher in his coc| and is more responsible than even the State superint^ ent, for the upbuilding strengthening of our educat: system. His duty in part, i| study other schools, other ods and other men, and comij icate what is best in these I own teachers. Yet, as intiml above, not every man or eJ teacher can do this. To dol this with ability the county sul intendent] must be a teacheij experience and a scholar, lib minded and deep. Can any! possessing all these qualifi tions to a greater degree til Mr. A. H. Clark be found in 111 rison county ? With the abill and the determination, if electf to promote and up-build public school in teres t| we have no hesitation in declJ ing that politics should be la aside and Mr. Clark supportl by all parties. Democrat| The Wellsburg Herald inaH following timely suggestions | farmers which they will do 1 to heed : Is there any good < cuse for the farmers being -hd up1 when their products are | such demand at such good pric True, wheat and wool may low in price, but might not sod of the ground be worked to 1 ter advantage ? If there wd less wheat and wool in the mar ket, would not the prices for those staples naturally rise in proportion to their scarcity ? Good beef it is almost impossible to get and good country butter is scarce at from 20 to 25 cents per pound, while farmers allow worthless imitations to be sold for good cow butter. Would not a little more pasture for cattle, for beef and diary purposes, with a little of the time and attention now devoted to the surplus rais ing of wheat and wool, devoted to diary and beef interests, in sure very greatly to the advant age of the farmer ? Could not butter making be established as a mere means of disposing of the surplus milk or as task devolv ing upon the women folks? Such achangowould at least be ap preciated by dependent custo mers in town. An important real estate deal was consummated at Fairmont last week when the board of county commissioners purchased the old Mountain City hotel pro perty, which adjoins the court house grounds.
