Kester, proprietor of the Ceatral Hotel, has made im provements in the way of a street lamp and a new sign, which are necessary as well as attractive. Jay Martin, Esq., has about completed a larpe new business building on Main street to be used for offices, store-rooms, etc. Ed Martin is building an addi tion to his residence. A. D. Corpening has treated his store to a new coat of paint. Dr. C. R Peck, of Tyrconnell, has located here and opened an office la one room of Jay Mar tia's now building. Street Commissioner Kestei -will soon have a force of hands repairing our streets. Sncb work is badly needed. The suit or case which was tried Saturday between J. D. Wilkinson and K. of P. lodge was decided in favor of Mr. Wilkin son. Mrs. Rachel Sheehy, mother of postmaster Sheehy. died at her home last Wednesday. Her remains were interred at the brick church. The members of our brass band have reorganized and meet regu larly at K. of P. Hall for prac tice. Res. Salem. Rev. Huffman has returned from a trip to Weston and Brax ton counties, having been gone five weeks. He reports having had a very pleasant time. Quarterly meeting at the S. D. B. church next Saturday and Sunday. Messrs. B. C. and S. H. Davis, formerly of Jane Lew, this State, but now of New York, are ex pected here sooti with their brides. Elder L. R. Swinney, who is well known by the people of Har rison county, as a former pastor of the Brick Church on Lost Creek, is to be in attendance at the Association to be held with that church next week. He will preach on Saturday morning, May 27th, before the Association al gathering. H. H. Davis, who was severely hurt by the tipping over of a load of hay, is slowly recovering Prof. W. M. Blair has been kept from his class work for a few days this week by sickness. Only three weeks more of school this year. West Virginia, in conformity to the law in such cases made and provided, and pursuant to an order of the Coun cil o; said Town duly ontered, do proclaim that an election by the qualified voters of said Town, bo held in said Town on TUESDAY. THE 6TH DAY OP JUNE, 1893. to decide whether they will ratify or reject an ordinance adopted on the 12th day of May, 1893. by the' Council of said Town, in tho words and figures following, to wit.: "An Ordinance, for the issue of bonds for the construction of a Filter Plant. Whereas, It is necessary and expedient fur the comfort und well being of the people of the Town of Olark&bnrg. and the protection of their health and lives against discii.se, by using the water of tne West Pork of the Mouongahela river, for do mestic purposes, that there should ... be erected therein without delay, a suitable Filter Plant; and Whereas, To carry out object it. is expedient that town should issue and sell bonds for money sufficient that purpose. Thekefore, Be it ordained for the council of thoTownofClarp burg: That the said town do issue its bonds of the denomination of tine hundred dollars and multiples thereof, for a sum in the aggre gate not exceeding five thousand dollars, each bearing date on the first-day of July, 18(J3, and pay able to bearer twenty years after '.he date thereof, with interest at, the rate of fi?e per centum per annum, payable annually from said date, which said bonds shall contain a provision expi therein that they shall not be liable to taxation by said town; and that said town shall have the right at any time after ten years from the date of said bonds to release and discharge itself from any further liability arising from said bonds or any part of them by the payment thoreof of the principal and interest due there on. That each of said bonds shall be numbered and attested by the seal of the town affixed thereto, and be signed by the Mayor and Recorder. After said bonds shall have been so iss ued no more of them shall be sold than may be necessary to realize therefrom a sum sufficient for the construct ion of said Filter Plant, and none shall be sold for less than par. It is further ordained: That the payment of the principal and interest of said bonds shall be provide! for by a special tax upon the taxable property of said Town not exempt, until the inter est and principal thereof are dis charged. The election to decide whether the qualified voters of said Town will ratify or reject this ordinance, shall be held and conducted, and the result thereof I certified, returned and nnall.vge termined under the laws in force in this State on March 11th, 1393. In the cholera epidemio in New York last Tear the most prominent Physicians recommended the use of artificial ioe'as it is devoid of all elements of danger anil nono but pure water was allowod to be used. Ice inspectors are being appointed in the larger cities of tliu country, and all the ice taken from ponds that are stagnated and impreg nated with impurities, is condemned and its Bale prohibited. It is the duty of the health officer* to look into this II atter and see that no impure ice is sold. We do not waut a cholera epi demio here this summer. 'i'lio water used in the manufacture of their ice is pure clear spring water. This in turn is distilled before being frozen and it is absolutely impossible for any impurity to remain after the water has gone through this process. The water is tbeu conveyed to vats and frozen into blocks weighing 200 pounds each. ThiB water does not come iu contact with ammonia as is claimed by those who are not acquainted with the process of freez ing, but is in irou pipes under freezing vats. There are 1.0 secrets about the workH aud any one who is in any way skeptical about any of these points can have access to the building at any time and if they had never Been an ice plant iu operation the visit could not help but being an interesting and instructive one. The company commenced manufac turing ioe March 17, and besides furn ishiug their customers are storing the remainder aud now have several hun dred tons in their storage house.
